The Theology Council has made its decision, and we should all respect that.
I hope that Merdaneth's recent offer to buy the debt now offers an honourable way out for all parties.
What I find interesting is the gusto with which the anti-slavery brigade have denounced the activities of these two holders whilst completely ignoring the recent murder of over one hundred thousand slaves elsewhere.
But then, double standards from the enemies of the Empire are hardly surprising any more.

Ignore: To be Ignorant of. To be unaware of. To be uninformed of.
So, Blake. Inform us.

While the deaths you show are the most ill of fortunes, a flaw can be found in your logic and argument from this even as you hedge your bets. You base your moral argument on the willful and decided placement of captives within military installations. While the Defiants' weapons destroyed those places and are, medically speaking, the cause of death, it is the orders of the Seventh Fleet's officers that placed civilians in harm's path; one does not need to deliver the killing blow to be a murderer. Indeed, it can be said that certain unenlightened Amarrians hold responsibility for two tragedies in such a short period.
Do not use a case of negligent homicide committed by Amarrians against slaves to attempt distraction from a separate case of negligent homicide committed by Amarrians against slaves. There is shame in such simple tricks.
I ask you permit this matter to not be clouded any further.
Exactly the response I expected.
In the view of the Electus Matari, it's perfectly acceptable to knowingly murder slaves if you can manage to murder a lower number of Amarrians at the same time.
Truly disgusting.

It is not the fault of Electus Matari that their enemies are so cowardly that they hide behind the innocent lives of their Kin. Should the Matari people cease our struggle for freedom because of this cowardice? We cannot to that. Even though it is a terrible, heart-breaking thing to be the cause of the death of some of our own people, we cannot stop our struggle for freedom because our enemies hide behind their slaves; that would be the end of Hope.
These aren't hostages that we're talking about. These aren't human shields.
These were Minmatars and Ealurians doing valuable work. They would have been doing that work regardless of whether or not an attack was happening.
Tell me, to release a single slave, how many other slaves are you willing to murder?

They were still put there in the midst of a war zone. Tell me, would you have put Amarrian workers on that station, knowing the great risk of an attack?
Firstly, why should Amarrians have to do menial work just so that a Minmatar doesn't have to?
Secondly, twenty thousand Amarrians also died in that attack.

Make up your mind, Pilot Blake.
Sometimes even menial work can be valuable. For example, without cleaners Amarrian stations would look like their fedo-infested Minmatar counterparts.

Good.
And here we see the inherently racist nature of Minmatars come to the surface. There really is nothing else to say.

Given the Char witch's failure to condemn the actions of the Defiants or the effects of the barbaric Voluval ritual, one has to wonder just why she has condemned what is clearly an internal Amarrian matter.
The Defiants have killed far more Minmatars than these two Holders. The Voluval has caused far more suffering than these two Holders. And yet she has remained silent on both!
Clearly her motivation is not humanitarian but rather political in nature.

Evanda seems to believe just because Minmatar have "two eyes, a nose, a mouth" and other things they would be somewhat equal. It appears that this new school of thought, this new Minmatar propaganda is build upon the ridiculous idea of equality. It is highly amusing that this school of thought comes from people who are known for their individuality.
Indeed, Arderich. And the interesting thing is, she thinks nothing of exiling or silencing those Minmatars with the wrong sort of Voluval mark, despite the fact that those wretches have the same basic facial features as her.

Well, given the direct experience we've had of Amarr loyalists not so much using human shields, as stuffing their holds with slaves just to hurt and punish those who oppose you, I have to agree with those in this thread who point out that stuffing the ADCs full of slaves was a decision made on the Amarr side.
If you truly wish to redeem them so very much, why not protect them until they reach enlightenment, rather than using them as fleshly sandbags for your own-blooded officers to hide behind?
As I've said elsewhere, those slaves were not there to function as human shields or as hostages. They were there to do their jobs.
To take them out of the workplace would be to suurender to terrorism - something that the Empire is not in the habit of doing.

Originally by: Esna Pitoojee Edited by: Esna Pitoojee on 26/03/2008 21:00:18 For some time, I have observed this matter from the sidelines, choosing to see what path the Theology Council chose. Now, I can openly say that I am ashamed by the actions of my government concerning this matter.
I must say at this point (to ward off any misconseptions about my statements) that I do not - and cannot - support those such as Electus Matari or The Defiants who would see the Empire totally destroyed. However, neither can I ignore the horrible situation to which those Matari enslaved aboard those two Bestowers were subjected.
Religious matters aside, it simply makes little sense to subject Matari to such horrors. Whether you are looking at simple monetary loss incurred by such actions, considering the disaster that this has caused in inter-empire relations, or, like me, you believe that even those who have been enslaved by the Empire are still deserving of human rights, you can see that this has caused no good for the Empire.
So, I hope that other Holders will refrain from further acts such as this, and I must apologize - yes, apologize - for the judgement of the Theology Council. If the Amarr Empire has come to this, then it has fallen in more ways than military might - we have lost any moral statutes that we may have held.
I will likely be targeted due to my statements here. I may even be attacked and destroyed in my capsule, but I will not recind my statements. If the Amarrian religion has one that all peoples and cultures can agree on, it is the tenet of not backing down from something you truly believe in because there is danger involved in holding that position.
A side note: Several other Amarrians whom I have spoken to have expressed similar sentements concerning the issue.
The Theology Council's verdict isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the actions of the two Holders.
I hope that the two of them can now come to some sort of amicable agreement that will ensure that the slaves are well cared for.
Reputation is important to Holders, and we're all watching them to see what they'll do next.
