auction was over soon as it hit 23:00 so 42b was the last valid bid, since there is no sniper inplace. (weird considering the BPO being sold)

It's the seller's decision whether a bid labeled 23:00 is valid, but generally it is common to see both bid increments and sniper rules in high-profile auctions. That the seller chose to use neither probably hurt their potential profit, though I suspect the April Fools Day end date was an even poorer choice. Speaking only for myself, there were too many questions about this auction for it to be worth the effort to bid.

I dont mean to go against the rules but why are people making such high bids compared to the yearly returns? What am I missing?

Well, There's a likelyhood that because this auction was so short and not well pushed that some of the resellers bidding after it's ended can flip it for a profit. Besideds that it's nice to have a t2 bpo, and it's along the lines of one of those things that you just do with your isk. 40-50b can be difficult to invest in something that's not going to work your ass off, so something like this (tho not a great profit) is a good choice. There's enough volume of these things on markets that you could POSSIBLY push the profit out to 16 or even 17b a year. And ofc, lets not forget 0.0 corps/alliances and knowing that t2 bpo's will be much more fixed in pricing compared to decrypter prices.

Well, a poorly constructed auction resulted in a poorly ended auction where the seller breaks his own rules without even posting that he had changed his mind on in-game bids. Unprofessional auctions like this are why people don't see more bids on their T2 BPOs.
