With all the people scanning your ship as you go through so called safe space, i'm wondering if putting stuff inside a container in your cargo will hide the contents from them?

No, but there's some "unscannable" containers in the DB so we might see those in-game in the future.

I did some tests on Sisi at the weekend about this.
If you've got items in your ship hold in cans and you get scanned, the cans don't even show up! All the scanner shows is the items.
If you have stuff in password protected audit cans and get destroyed, anyone can either open the can in space and get to what's inside or scoop the can to their own hold and open it there. But if they dock, the password becomes active again and they won't be able to open the can. It's as though the act of undocking automatically unlocks audit cans and docking relocks them.

Courier contract packages used to be safe from scanning. So if you didn't want someone to see your cargo you could accept your own courier mission to get the items into that plastic wrap stuff. As far as I know, they did this because the person who accepts a courier mission is not supposed to be able to see what it is they are moving. I haven't tried this in a while, does anyone know if it still works?

Can't you just repackage them like you used to be able to do? or is this some oddity of audit cans?

Containers will show contents on scan.
The only way to hide contents from scan is, and this has been tested, the way to do it is... please send me 100mil for info
The trick is to double courier wrap your stuff. Scanner will show contents of courier wrap, but if you wrap the wrap so to speak, then the scanner will only show a wrap.
Did I use the word wrap enough?
There is a bit of fiddling involved to make it happen, but it's a lot less painful than the 100mil I should have charged, or the loss of your stuff to a gank
x
Edit: William, a scanner will see straight through an audit can, whether they have to undock/jet it / re scoop again is of no consequence.

And since the most proficient gankers read these forums, you've just told them that if they see courier packages in your hold, you're worth suiciding. Well done.

I was going to add an edit to that effect
The thing is though, you can run around with 1 isk wrapped up or 10bil isk.
It makes it more of a gamble, and that is a kind of balance.

I use my eve account password on my anchored secure cans.
Better change it. I knew it was stupid when I did it, I'm just lazy in coming up with a new one. --

We need some kinda scan falsifier, make your cargo look like it's full of fertilizer or somethin. Tie it in with the Black Market trading skill, which I have, but have no use for yet.

Once insurance payouts are not provided to gankers, this practice will come to an end....
If using an ECM burst will bring Concord down on you, why doesn't cargo scanning?

1. No, It wont, it'll just help the noobs who are barely worth suiciding a bit, since the suiciders will only go for the big stuff after such a change.
2. One could be used to kill other players ships (ECM bursting frigs in belts under attack etc) but the cargo scanner cant. Quite simply, hostile act.

You're better off attempting to obfuscate by carrying a large number of tiny items such as salvage components or unstacked minerals, or bookmarks.
There is currently only one scan-proof method of transporting an item: if you have a blueprint, you can start a job with it in a mobile lab or assembly array, then unanchor & scoop the structure while the job is in progress. Blueprints hidden this way don't show up on cargo scans (at least, they didn't the last time I tested this). Of course, you're now stuck with a 3,000m^3 structure to transport instead... This seems a very plausible method, as it relies on the strong possibility of Goon wetware being rather rubbish.

I'm thinking 'no'... but I can't prove it as you cannot put a container in a courier contract, so I'm guessing on containers.
However, there is a trick to put a courier wrap in a new courier contract and that one is NOT scannable. The only thing it will report on scanner is: "Plastic Wrap"

If this really works I am so going to buy and insure a huge stack of the cheapest indys I can find and double wrap 1 piece of trit and send it to Jita on autopilot over and over and over. --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |

Well the other side of it is by forcing them to read the contents and waste time you have more time to warp or get to the gate. Plus they may have so many targets they'll just go on to the next guy before they finish you. A combination of all of the above might be suggested... a Can with the wrapped package in it perhaps with some other junk?
The best part about small junk is that often cheap fittings don't take a whole lot of space so you can pack a bunch of them in as well as your wrapped/canned mins or whatever and go about your merry way. *-------------------------* PoX IS Eve!!! BOOM!!! |

By the time you stand to lose any significant isk from a Concord action, you are really no longer a noob. If you lose a CNR or T2 ship or even a BS, you've been playing long enough to know the rules. Anything less is not really a significant loss and can be recovered quite easily.
Besides, if they can't stand to lose a bit of ingame currency occasionally, they are really playing the wrong game. It would be better to learn this early on in the game than later when they lose their faction fitted T2 BS and pod along with a billion in implants to lowsec player rats. 2.5 billion+ loss anyone? That would hurt even a veteran.
