First of all i am not sure if this is the right place to post ideas for new ships..... But anyway... Salvage ship....: I think the game lacks ships ment only for salvaging.. i was thinking that it would be cool with a T2 BC that had a bonuses for salvaging like.. :
20-25 % to tractor beems range per level 5-20 % to the salvage succes chance and items salvaged
The ship should have : 8 high slots 4-6 mid slots 1 for a mwd, 1 for a afterburner, and then some for cap rechargers + some for shielding if it is a shield tank. 3-? low slots 3 for cargo expanders and some for amor tanking.. If i could make the ship i would make : 8 high slots 6 mid slots 6 low slots
It should be a decent tank and have the posibility to fit a cloak so it is possible to fly around in 0.0 relativly safe.
It should allso be a fast ship so it dosent take for ever to fly from wreck to wreck, but if it get the tractor beam bonuses, this isent that importent.
It should have a good cargo capacity so you can pick up modules aswell without having to fly back and foreward to many times.
And atlast it should be able to have 5 of the best salvage drone onboard..... (WHEN DO THE SALVAGE DRONE COME ?) the skill have been there for over a year!!!!
If the ship gets a good tank and the bonuses i sugested, there should be no reason that it can fit any weapons in high slots..

I use a destroyer for salvage. I've had 2 points in the skill since my first week of play and I took my Coromont on exactly 1 mission before determining I liked the Kessie better.
Besides, unless this salvage ship was dirt cheap, had a massive cargo bay and got me more/better salvage I wouldn't see the point in training for a T2 salvager.
As far as your design goes, I'll just say that I would NEVER use it for salvage. I would tank/gank the hell out of it and send it straight into combat. I mean, it has more slots than a Tier 3 Battleship for gods sake.
Not to mention your bonuses would require an exceptionally long lock range (60k or so base) to make use of them.
IF I were to make a salvage ship it would look more like this:
8 High Slots 1 Mid Slot 1 Low slot
600 m^3 cargo
Bonuses:
Base Ship Skill: 5% increased cargo capacity per level 5% increased chance of salvage per level
Salvage Ship Skill: 5% increased tractor beam range and speed per level 5% faster cap recharge per level.
It would handle like a tier 1 indy ship and would be fairly slow.
That being said, I don't think there is a need for a Salvage ship since we already have a ship class doing pretty much JUST that these days.

Edited by: Sky Wizard on 27/03/2008 03:19:35 A ship with salvagin and tractor beam bonuses would save me alot of time since i salvage evrything, when i do missions and i think that the salvagin loot is to small even tho i got lvl 5 in salvagin. Thats why i would like a ship dedicated for salvaging...
I use a destoyer for salvaging aswell, or drakes since im a caldari pilot.. i dont think destroyers got big enough cargo space...
I know that my suggestion might be a bit over the top, but my thought was that ccp could cut it down.
basicly i would like a ship that could fit 4 salvagers 3 tractor beams 1 cloaking device
enough power to run these modules all the time and as much cargo space as posible
why i sugested a bc T2 was because that there is no Drake T2 and i find that a drake is relly good for salvaging.

You are aware that the Marauder class meets every criteria you mentioned?
Also, implying that the drake's noble hull be fitted with SALVAGERS?! My god it's one of the ONLY good looking Caldari ships out there and you want to sadle it the lowly task of GARBAGE collector?! I'm gonna go sit in a corner and be EMO now.

there is a ship for salvaging and is called a dessy. at least it serves some purpose now.
and @ op: i seriously lolled at slot layout: 8/6/6 ? and also fast? =) not to mention other traits it should have... and salvgaing in 0.0 relatively safe ? if you watch local and are quick, you're safe anyway
