I'd like for someone to explain why my Charon could not pick up items from the cans I had jettisoned and bookmarked in space ?
Example being the following: I killed all objectives in my mission, there were Kernite asteroids there. I returned with my Hulk and mined them for around 1 1/2 hrs. Rather than make numerous trips, I jet canned the ore and decided to return and pick them all up with the Charon before they expired and disappeared. Upon my return I could not fit into the warp gate ( I can accept this rule due to size Etc.), so I completed the mission and returned once again to my book mark to retrieve my ore. Once I arrived there I got some weird statement that I had to be docked or near a control tower to load the ore into my freighter. What is the reason for this? What purpose does it serve? Why is this blocked?
I feel this is an unreasonable Rule/block in the game. If a player takes the time to learn all the skills, pay for and fly a Charon, they should be able to use it in space to do whatever any other ship can do to items in space.
Does this sound unreasonable? It really takes a long time to do everything I did to only find out I could not do what seemed logical to be able to do in the first place.

If a roleplay reason helps:
Imagine this 300m container ship, sailing along the ocean and spotting this nice little bucket floating.
Now for obvious reasons you can't just pick it up and store it in this container 20 floors down into its belly.
Same goes for EvE freighters, you got to be docked or around a starbase to load or unload.
For non-roleplay reasons, it indirectly promotes teamplay. Thats how it works in multiplayer games. Wouldn't be much multiplayer if you achieve the same alone.

There is no ability to transfer goods between ships directly and it can't pick up something in space. What team play? If we pick up industrial to load all cargo to the station, then we don't need freighter anymore, we can sell it there.
And btw why freighters didn't have fitting slots? Is it just old stereotype that "trains dont have guns" and how about armored train? I think that it is silly that capital sized ship can't do anything to survive when captured. How about giving freighters at least some midslots for EWar systems?

To be fair, a huge 300m container ship would be able to come to a stop, throw anchor, launch a smaller boat / throw out a hook snag the bucket, and then store it wherever they wanted, sure it's not as simple as just pulling up with a speed boat and grabbing it, but it doesn't make it impossible.

To be counter-fair, given the stopping distance of a 300m container ship, by the time you spotted the bucket, it would be too late to stop...

In this example, using the facts as stated by the op, we already know the location of the bucket (jetcan) and would have stopped in it's vicinity, in addition the ability to launch a smaller vessel to collect the said "bucket' makes stopping distance virtually irrelevant, unless said vehicles stopping distance is further than the range of the launched vessel.

This is why RL-analogies and RP justifications are silly. The real reason that freighters can't scoop cans is that if they could, all highsec mining ops would have a freighter with them. And most 0.0 ones also, probably.

Just think about it. Having a Charon/Obelisk/etc out in the belt for a mining op in high sec. You shouldn't be able to hold 3 belts worth of ore out there. Would be nice, but it ain't going to happen. Then people would start asking for high slots for tractor beams, then mids for shield mods, then lows for cargo expanders. Next thing you have a huge indi. Nope, ain't going to happen.
But, 1 low would be nice.

I cant imagine the nightmare of a freighter stranded in an astroid belt...
If freighters were able to haul from cans to stations, the haulers/miners ratio should be insanely diminished. Less haulers = more miners = more money.

Less haulers = more miners = more minerals for you = more minerals for the market = lower value for the minerals = the same money but lower priced minerals

I'm thinking more along the lines of:
- Jump to asteroid field
- Right click field bracket in overview
- Choose "scoop to cargo hold"
- Jump to next field
