I'm trying to design three PVP Rifter setups that my industrial members can start mass-producing for the corp, an armor tanked, a shield tanked, and a speed tanked setup. I reviewed the thread in the "index" sticky but it lists only about 100 variations on the plain vanilla armor plated Rifter that I usually use. Speed tank is pretty easy to figure out, but what would a shield tanked PVP Rifter look like?

Having tried but a/cs, small neut, mwd, med extender, scram/web, fitting/dmg mods, sounds reasonable. Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

ac's with barrage mwd, web, scram small rep, 400mm, mapc
way better than a shield setup

Try: 3x125ac, Rocket Launcher MWD, Med Extender, Scram PDS, Gyro, OD
Would give ya around 1300 shield with decent speed and damage. Lack of a web could be a problem but with a shield tanked setup it really isn't possible to fit one.

Thanks, it's intended to fit in with a mixed fleet, so the lack of web is acceptable. I'll try this out today.

This is rather true. If you wanna try shield tanked try to fit however many MAPCs in the lows to fit a medium extender and build on that.

these setups are all generally terrible
flying small ships requires great situational awareness and a nuanced understanding of ship and turret mechanics, if they are nubs they are all killmails irrespective of their tanks
tl;dr, just fit an MWD and a damage control ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

3x 200 1x rocket mwd/web/med t2 extender od/nano/mapc
extender/dmg/sped rigs if your rich
better than a claw imo does 5500m/s over great dps use it to hunt ceptors if ina gang fit a disruptor, most poeple dont figure on lsoing vs a rifter or figure they are tackled and forget ot warp .

Edited by: Miss Miata on 01/04/2008 01:05:08 a med extender in mids will make a decent sheild rifter and just fit around it using a pds or 2/3 in lo`s. the suggested setup above that you were going to try is prettu much what im suggesting but id dump the `mwd and overdrive` and swap them for a cold gas ab and either another pds or a another gyro
if u can rely on ya armor tanked rifter buddies for tacklin you could build a passive tank rifter,
2 x passive hardners 1 med extender
3 spr/pds (i forget which makes hardest tank)

For the more experienced/skilled members of your corp a shield tanked Jaguar is a pretty nice ship albiet a tad expensive in comparison to a Rifter
3x 150mm t2 1x Rocket launcher
1x MWD 2x Medium shield extender 1x 7500m scram
2x PDU 1x MAPC
2x shield resist rigs (only 2-3mil each)
This does ok damage, has nice resists and a substantial buffer.
Might take a bit of fiddling in terms of fitting everything but with decent fitting skills you could probably get rid of a PDU and fit a gyro instead.

To be honest armor / shield tanking a rifter is just gimping it... Shield extenders make its signature larger being easier to hit. Armor setup makes the rifter slower meaning again easier to hit / harder to get out of webs. It is your choice but rifters are only ment for one setup, speed tanking, atleast in my opinion.

I used something like
low : 2 MAPC, overdrive med : mamed mwd, mamed med extender, scram high : 3 x 250 II arty, whatever, can be a standard launcher with good skills
Decently fast (3000+), operates out of web range, shield buffer give you time to gtfo when something is hitting you with light missiles or light drones (or plain good tracking).
Awful dps, not cap stable, decently survivable. -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. Well designed interface CCP! |

Three Setups Use the Medium Extender/400Plate/200Plate Armor Tank. Those are your three fits for people with shield skills, armor skills, and no skills. Downgrade turrets to fit, use mapc, and forget the extra missle launcher if you have to. Speed fits are kinda worthless on rifters because MOST people don't have a clue how control ranges and if they do they aren't flying a rifter.

LOL.
A unbuffered Rifter is total fail, I'm afraid.
You simply get melted by anything short of BS guns - while 200mm RT tanked versions can at least take a few hits, and 400mm RT plate versions already have a noticeable buffer to play with.
I mean, yeah, you could use a 'speed tanked' Rifter to pretend you're a interceptor, but if you want said Rifters to do damage, you go to webrange, and if there's enough of you, you'll be relatively OK orbiting at 500 metres even under webs; the few hits that you do get on yourself get absorbed by the plate and the SAR.
Speed tanking when webs exist on ships which are doomed to be in webrange is mostly fail.

3x SPR 1x MSE 1x AB (target is already webbed) 1x scram 3x 150 AC 1x rocket
If MWD is needed then the SPR's hurt.... a lot.

Thats a decent setup maybe try to get a gyro on it. Thing with rifters is everyone expects them to armor tanks so when you find shield tankers it throws you off.

No kidding! This OP was partly inspired by me dueling a shield-buffer-tanked Rifter (in my armor-tanked one) in Amamake and getting pwn'd smartly. I was firing Fusion ammo and barely scratched his tank.

If your going to shield tank a rifter, you're generally going to speed fit it anyway
3 150mm 1 rocket launcher mwd, scram, medium shield extender II overdrive, nano, dc II/another overdrive
or 3 125mm, 1 small nos mwd, web, scram 200mm, SAR II, dc II __________________________________ Garmonation - Rupture fun video

I use an autocannon Rifter with no tank. Just mwd and standard tackling gear in the mids, and gyro, nanofiber, and overdrive in the lows. It has its uses. You just can't take on anything particularly heavy in it if you're alone.

Better than a claw? In what way! Its way slower and alot less dps, I get around 7000ms out of my claw with no rigs just maxed skills!

most sensible rifter fit so far.
