While recently in 0.8 space and while sitting afk at a gate, i returned to my comp to discover a npc pirate (who's corp don't like me) peeling away my hull with an energy weapon.
normaly I assume these are the cons of going afk at a gate, but i cant help but wonder why, when im at the gate and being attacked in 0.8 space, both the sentry guns at the gate and the 1/2 dozen concord ships in the area totaly ignored the npc shooting me (and this was not the weak lil arrogator either, he had my kestral down to 10% hull by the time warp kicked in and it only took about 10 seconds!)
Where the heck was concord??? is this some sort of "feature"? security zones only apply to pc's? i realy don't get it, concord will pay and reward me for killing "wanted" rats... the same ones they gently dance around with 24/7 at the gates. frankly if my sec rate was low and i warped into a high sec area, i couldnt sit still for 2 seconds without concord firing my arse up.
I know this is some sort of issue with game mechanics and it is likely impossible to allow concord to attack other npc's without it becomming a private little npc war between the rats and concord, but cant something be done to keep the rats away from the gates in high sec space? or for concord to protect pc's who suffer more then x damage from npcs within y distance of the gate?
the deeper issue is for a pc to greif the other players by pulling a high level rat to the gate area and letting it gank other pc's approaching the gate.
so how you keep a rat away from the gate and yet prevent players from pulling the rat to its destruction at the gate (if concord became responsive) or leading the rat to the gate as a present to the other players? or god forbid, they find their own way there? ------------------------------------------------ There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers just exactly what the universe is for and why we are here, that it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. True. But I¦d have thougt that concord would shoot at armed members of known hostile criminal factions when they attack innocent passersby. Not that I really care, just seems that concord lacks consistency.

so then am i to understand that securtiy ratings are only there to keep pvp out of noob areas? or to deter pvp
so if noob1 flys his ibis to a .8 gate and gets ganked by a npc while he is approaching the gate.. well too bad? are you saying he should have not been .8 space in the first place?
are you in fact saying that security ratings on systems is only there to protect n00b1 from pc players and not rats? my understanding is high sec space is there for safety and to represent the police presence in that area. does this mean that i can expect to get shot at at the gate in 1.0 space too?
that makes no sense whatsoever ------------------------------------------------ There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers just exactly what the universe is for and why we are here, that it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. 0.8 =! 1.0
So you're not supposed to be completely safe there.

OOOO OOOOOO! OOOOO!! PICK ME PICK ME!!!! OOO yay!
how about a "afk button" that keeps npcs from atacking you at gates... and only gates and afk mode is deactivated by movement of the mouse and or keyboard?

inconsistant. if I so much as fire upon a container in .8 concord is all over me and i take a hit in sec status.
by the same token i can fire up rats all day long and no problem.
if you can take damage from npc's in .8 space, why cant you pvp?
I do understand the premise of the security levels, what i dont get is why concord polices the players only.
its like living in NYC... sure theres a homeless guy taking a crap on the sidewalk, but the cops give me a ticket for sitting on a milk crate.... ------------------------------------------------ There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers just exactly what the universe is for and why we are here, that it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. afk button would be exploitable, nice try though ------------------------------------------------ There is a theory which states that if anyone discovers just exactly what the universe is for and why we are here, that it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. Hm, I've seen NPC rats at gates in 1.0 systems too. Like in Amsen and that's even a starter system. I don't really see the need for rat at gates in systems above 0.4 either. Some more beacons showing low level rat spawns could guide those who whish to hunt them. Instead of rats looking silly at the gates. Because really, does those very low level rats realy pose a threat to anybody on the move except rookie ships? And while on subject, I would like to see the level of the rats camping gates in low sec systems beefed up a bit. ---------------- What's a rumor on page one is a fact on page two |

It's one of the more annoying and immersion-breaking features of eve.
Don't let it bother you, the rats at those gates are not very powerful, and shouldn't inflict more then shield damage whilst travelling.
Of course, going afk at a gate is another thing.

Really though. The game would be 10,000x more immersive if you qactually saw concord fihting these guys fromtime to time. There SHOULD be little npc wars going on! WHy arent there any?

I would like to see battles between concord and pirates... it would be a nice improvement.
