Ok, so those of you who listen to any news in the real world must be familiar with the whole 1% issue. Before going further, this isn't supposed to be a discussion on whether or not it's right or true, furthermore, we should refrain from discussion of Real-world politics as much as possible.
That said, New Eden has a very interesting standpoint and could offer some interesting (read: important) information regarding basic human interraction with money. Now, I do understand that this IS a game, and that obviously there are factors within EVE that just do not translate through the keyboard-brain barrier. However, I would like to see, if possible, Some 'Wage' statistics -- What constitutes EVE's 1%? How much do they have, and how much do they make? Where does the rest of the Galaxy fall in underneath them, in terms of income and net value?
It may give some valuable insight, if nothing else, in how a truly free market would operate here, on Earth. Then again, this is mostly just rhetoric and an interesting set of numbers. There were some numbers floating around the forums earlier, let me see if I can dig them up.
Edit: Are you looking for something like this? https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=66491
Of course, that's only isk, most people have a lot of value in assets. But it serves as a good indicator. |

You'll NEVER be able to gain any useful insite from EVE markets that can be applied to RL markets. Why?
1. EVE NEVER has unemployment. There's always an ISK faucet that is handy and accessible for anyone. 2. There's really no 'overhead' in EVE. No heating bills, no food costs, etc. Nothing that bleeds ISK from everyone (and a substantial amount, for most) without significant reward (other than staying alive, etc.) 3. The ability to instantly generate around 450-500m ISK when you want something through 'currency exchange' (RL money --> PLEX)
Sorry, but everyone in EVE has the ABILITY to have as much ISK as they damn well please, with little to no cost associated with life, etc. No RL comparison can really be made between EVE economy and RL economy, ever. Occasionally things to seem to 'line up' between the two, but it's coincidence and not an actual relation. |

I believe someone tried to calculate it, but had problems because large amount of money are hidden in corp wallets that cannot be checked.
Of what I remember though in the calculation not being able to take corp wallets into consideration, not even the 10% richest had close to all the wealth in Eve. |

*cough* downtime *cough* That's a ~4.2% average unemployment rate.
