Hello,
I heard from a friend that in a Mackinaw with good skills mining Clear Icicles you can earn about 15mil an hour if you refine and sell the stuff in jita. I was pretty skeptical on this one so can anyone confirm this?

As far as I know the current rates for high-sec ice mining are about 8 million per hour.

Here you go - work it out yourself.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Ice mining is no match for Level 4 missions in terms of ISK/hour. Plus it's drudgingly menial work. I've had to ice mine for fuel before, so I know this. Really if you don't have to ice mine, don't do it, unless you're just taking a break from pewpew.

Just mine ice in the Unholy land and you won't have to worry about bringing down the wrath of the freedom fighters

Ice will never, ever be more profitable than L4 missions or normal mining. Just basic economics. If it does get more valuable more people will do it and drive prices down. So it stabilizes at something less valuable than normal mining in hi sec.
While it may be menial it is one of my preferred things to do in EVE when I am doing other things. Normal mining takes more attention, ice mining has longer cycle times and is somewhat safer from ore thieves since the rocks are so big. When I am reading or forum whoring or watching TV or otherwise working having my ice miner running is pretty simple.

Yeah, but so are L4 missions, after a while.

It's nice to diversify sometimes. When one activity gets boring or inconvenient, you can always switch to a different one.
Definitely use the Grismar Ore Index that was linked by Malcanis earlier, in conjunction with the in-game market. Also factor in the amount of time it takes you to run an ice mining cycle.
Myself, I used to be a pure ore miner, then I went into level 4 mission running for a long time, at one point I considered working with datacores, now I mostly do 0.0 ratting, and lately I've become interested in ice mining. Just an example of someone who does a little bit of everything. ---

I thought the 4 trillion macro-miners had the Empire Ice market cornered? 6 months ago I went to Shuhukin and saw about 90-100 of them.
