Hiya.
Having based my character creation around Science, Research and being a boffin, I started into the game to explore these aspects.
And in all my time in the last week, I've not found a single rentable lab slot!
I've basically got half my character tied up in the idea of Research and now I find I can't even begin to use it. 
Why are lab slots so rare? Or am I doing something wrong and not looking in the right places...? I've worked out how to assess whether a station has one or not from the F10 screen, but when I bother to fly all the way there, I find them all Rented *all* of the time.
I managed to find Factories to use on Day1, why are Research Labs so much rarer?
:(
PS. If anyone wants to mail me the location of a free slot in-game, I'd be the most appreciative newbie in the game.

From what I have seen there would be little chance at finding labs in 1-0.8 systems I found mine in a 0.4 system. Yes I did run around for a few nights looking for empty slots. Use the map to select research and go looking.

You need to head out to lower sec. space. They are far more common down there. There are a number available in my home system and it's a 0.6. Corps jump on them as soon as they can of course ;)

In answer to the questiuon why are they rare.
1. They are cheap 1,000 isk after a while is nothing.
2. Once you hire them they are free to use, factories have to be fed with mins and they are hungry.
3. If you don't use a slot for a period both labs and factories unrent themselves. This feeds back to 2.
4. It is easy to stick a bp in a lab and say run me 1000, or produce a 1000 copies and it will be occupied for months so long as the rent is paid. This is a waste but people do it.
5. As far as I can make out there is no limit on the number you can rent. Skills should limit how many you can use at a point in time.
The above makes demand for slots high. They do come up but you need to be lucky particularly in high sec space. As stated above you are more likely to find slots in 0.4 or below space though these also are in demand.

Don't give up hope. I've only been playing a couple of weeks, and just today decided to start looking determinedly. I got in a shuttle (so it didn't matter if I went into low sec space and got shot) and just trawled around the region I am in checking every station.
I probably got a bit lucky, getting the last slot in a 0.6 system, but they are out there.
Edit - forgot to add - use the tip above this where you go into the map and set it to show you all systems that have research stations - you can then roll over each of the red spots and it tells you which stations have the labs to visit. Sped up my exploration loads.

Never had any problem with finding labslots in Lonetrek region even in high security space. Ibura had two free slots at same station yesterday

Convo/message me in-game. Our corp is big in research and we'll help you get started. Plus we have a 0.1 system with over 60 free lab slots, and not a pirate anywhere on the way there/back (its totally safe).

Be patient and keep looking. There is a bug that unrents lab slots during very long research jobs. If you wait long enough, you will be able to pick up a slot created by this bug. I've lost mine over and over again from it.

Hi
It took me 3 nights of system hopping to find 2 lab slots! I agree that you should get out of secure space to find slots, I tried everywhere in secure but no luck. I eventually ventured down to .1 systems and eventually found some slots in a remote system. Luckily when I logged on today having been away for a week another slot was available so I now have 3!

I have 5 lab slots i ACCIDENTLY found an hour ago. I am currently trying to sell them to interested parties for cheap prices.
EDIT: should I mention that they are in the Devoid region and in secure space. Just in case anyone has a good offer.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

This is relly crazy, I have NEVER find a single lab sloot and I have tried lower sec also. Everyone that has the same problem, maby we should fill in a petition then maby CCP understand that they should change this.
