Here's something for "civilian" vessels only, like miners and transports: Distress beacons. In case an unarmed or weakly armed ship is attacked, the player would have the option to press a "Send Distress Call" button on the HUD. The distress beacon would send out an immediate call to help to all local ships and corporate colleagues for support. Anyone who responds to the call, by choosing "Support Ship in Distress" will receive a bounty payment from the player in distress - and looting rights to whatever the distressed vessel already killed. Selecting the support button will automatically warp or advance you to that location. Next to this button, is a "Call Concord" button. Concord will respond and assist, regardless of the security rating of the area, but this will annoy them and affect your standings. If you're on a mission, it will be counted as a failure. There may also be a delay in their response, depending on the distance they have to travel and the security rating of the area. And if a Concord vessel is destroyed, you have to pay back the cost of the vessel in full. It's certainly a risky option, however, independent non-corporate players like myself would find it helpful in a clinch. These distress calls will would work regardless of if you're under attack from other players or npc's. Exception: Concord will not support if the attacker has kill rights. Kill rights may be given to the attacker against anyone who chooses to support the ship in distress. A distress beacon may not be a default ability of all civilian ships, but a low-cost ship upgrade or drone.

Edited by: J''Mkarr Soban on 31/03/2008 11:13:23 I love this idea! But only if the bounty is placed by the person in distress, and that only one person/gang can accept the bounty, which would be null if the person dies, even if they do eventually get the attacker. You'd get gangs flying around doing just this, monitoring the busy gates for it. The only caveat would be that the person agressing you must actively be agressing you - you shouldn't be able to drop a distress beacon pre-emptively.
Heartily supported.
EDIT: This would work very well for actually taking escorts with you - they fly with you to give you instant response should someone arrive.

This is actually a good idea. It would need some serious work to avoid it becoming just another reason to blob, but it could be done. TBH though I don't like the idea of calling in concord, because it detracts from the whole multiplayer aspect of the game by allowing a player to mine solo in lowsec and other horrible things.
On the other hand...

If I were an evil person with evil friends, I would prepare a spot with a rapier or two, a lachesis, some extra tacklers, some DPS and some ECM. Then one of us would hit the distress beacon and we would wait to see what fell into our laps
Fortunately, noone in Eve would be that evil...

It's one of the inevitable risks of playing. Just keep in mind that the distress beacon is for local space only. The wise person would check their overview before responding. edit: Errr.... how noobish of me. If we're warping in then it wouldn't show on the overview. NVM! That's when kill rights are established, right?
