Right... so I could be mining in a tiny frigate with a cargo space of say 100m3 into which I can fit perhaps 1000 units of ore. If i jetison this can, i am able to fill it with perhaps 100,000 units of ore - more than I can fit into my 9000m3 capacity industrial ship.
How is this possible? Doesn't it seem slightly unrealistic/stupid. How can a cannister jetissoned from a frigate fit more into it than can be carried by a massive indy? Does it suddenly grow when it is ejected! How do CCP explain this??
I'm not complaining, I mine into the things, but it seems a bit silly

Edited by: Jay Gatsby on 16/04/2004 16:10:48 Each jettisoned can contains a tiny artificially-generated micro-wormhole spacetime pocket, which provides a huge amount of storage space contained in a small area. So I'm told.
but it's unstable, which is why your can will pop after a (pseudo-randomly generated) time...

Simple. Jettison cans have to be able to contain everything that falls out of your exploding ship; rather than have an enormous variety of cans of different sizes to suit every occasion, they just made all of them be 27,500 cubic metres. It's easier to program, or something.
If you want an in-game attempt to justify how it works, I'll go fetch Jash Ilian to talk about his space cats. I'm sure he can come up with something idiotic and yet plausible; I'd do it myself, but it's late.

I think it's the barometric pressure.

I think you should consider it actually being Jettisoned.. As in dumped straight into space..
And the Cans is more a way to avoid dealing with some sort of floating rockbits or similar..
This is also why a Jettisoned Can is not considered "your" property..
Or at least this is how I personally allways imagined it....

Whats saying the cans are sturdy, or even that thick?
Maybe just some strange material, like a few mm thick but strangely strong.
Something like that could pack down into a smaller space...... There's nothing saying that the can has to be rigid inside ure ship.
It's like...... a tent. You don't carry around a tent fully setup do you? Too much space.

You ever consider the compact theroy? That the canister folds open and expands? It's very very possible, even in todays technolgy ---------------------------------

Inspace, all you need is something to contain the ore, and ankour, doesnt matter how thick the canister itself is. ---------------------------------

Realistically, the cans would just compress down to a few sheets of metal while in your cargo hold, when you jettison them they'd automatically expand and lock together to hold a large volume.
