Wow, you guys are harsh!
But it's true, the question being asked is not a good one. When asking "what ship is best for...," one needs to be much more specific. Rather than saying, "What ship is best for piracy?" you could try "What ship is (or better yet, "ships are") best for small-gang gate camping, if I'm a low-skill pilot?" or "What ship is best for solo roaming piracy, given that I've got 37M sp and can fly all races' ships?"

Ok I will try to specify abit What race you pick at character creation isnt so important. However I have seen that the ships have different attributes. Minmatar have better speed, Caldari better CPU and more midslots, Gallente more drones, Amarr more lowslots and so on.
So Certain racial shiplines seems better suited for pvp and others for industry and so on Most people prefer to play Caldari (probably the Aryan looks of them) Some say that Gallente with their drones are the best for PvP How is the Amarr line and the Minamatar line for PvP, especially if you wish to go for piracy?

Truth be told, those are my two favorite races for pvp. Minmatar cannot gate gank, as a large percentage of their ships are speed tanks. They are also one of the hardest races to train for in that they have a split weapon system and a split tank system.
Amarr, while underrated, can be devestating. Again, it requires a lot of skills though. It will not be good for a young pilot, but more for an experianced one. But to because an experianced pilot, you need to fly em. Catch 22.

Whichever one suits your play style really.
I like to fly Gallente or Minmatar most of the time now, but I also fly ECM support in Caldari ships and I really like the Onyx even if it has the DPS of a peashooter.
Amarr ships are amazing tanks from everything I've seen (but the Amarr sucks threads kept me from training them just out of spite for certain Amarr players.). I have a buddy who has less SP than my alt (10-11mil) and he tears people apart in his Amarr ships.
Really comes down to the situation you're in, I've found a ship in each race that absolutely hate to fly (Ok, really just the Raven...), and I've found ships that I can't keep myself from buying again after I lose one... just because it's a fun ship to fly around in. ------------

Amarr is awesome for piracy, when you get decent skills for the Punisher (shouldn't take more than 10 days) you can solo a lot of frigates/cruisers in it. (Sentinel is also yummi)
Minmatar is also awesome. They get the Stabber and Rupture later on, and both are pretty awesome.

Minmatar i think would be one of the best.
Minmatar is fast for piracy and some ships have good specs that are handy in fleet.
for piracy you got mostly fast ships. speed is still inportant if u are solo. rifther, stabber, rupture, vaga, cane, slipnir, phoon. all good solo ships. for a small gang the stileto, sabre, vaga, rapier, huginn are nice. for big fleets go with the sabre, vaga, muninn, tempest, cheeta.
kepe in mind that minmatar is not an easy race you got both shield and amror tank setups. you always need full skills on speed to make em worth while. and on some ships you want guns and missiles and drones.
you basicly need all type of skills to fly em and if u wane be a bit good you need them trained up high.

meh think about what you want to do really bfore asking for ships
belt piracy
gate camps
o.o
empire war
all types have differant things you have to consider
realy decide what you want to do if you have low sp i wouldnt advise doing low sec gate camps cause your gonna lose isk quickly aswell as the will to live
fleet piracy is going to be hard for you if low sp cause no corp will take you in if a complete idiot....
so try getting into 0.0 to get experiance ..
or like everybody says you could just give me your isk and go play wow

Actually, you're asking the wrong question. There few "good" or "bad" ships. All ships have certain capabilities that suit them for a certain roll or context.
For exmample, if I say Osprey you think "shield repper" but you don't think that when I say Maller .... Both are T1 cruisers and which is best depends on what you intend to do with it...
No one race has a complete line of ships that cover all rolls nor does one race have the best ships for every roll.
So where does that leave you?
You can approach it one of two ways. Either pick a ship and train that to use for a given roll or pick a roll and find out what ship does it best and train that ship.
I think this is what most of the previous posts were trying to tell you.

Lots of Gallente players and Caldari players would disagree on that. :)

Minmatar can gategank - Tempest and Maelstrom. You got it wrong. Though Minmatar do need the most skills, they do not need those skills at level 5, and can do with level 4's in them and still do good damage. Amarr on the other hand require less skills overall but many of those skills need to be at level 5.
Tbh, i would consider the ability to fit a MWD as of more importance than having awesome ganking ability. Amarr in the BS class have very very heavy drawbacks to fitting MWD's while all of the Minmatar BS can fit them quite easily.

The dilemma here is which race shines the most - i know it is not gramatically correct, and which race shines with the least SP investment. For the first, popular choice is Gallente, and they are right. For th second, popular choice is Caldari, and again ... they are right.

IMO for best all around...
Big Fleet Battle in 0.0 = Megathron or support ships Piracy in low sec belts = Fast ships like the Vagabond Piracy in low sec gates = Dominix or for better tank if you need it the Abaddon Small gang battles = Raven *** |

Well it really depends I would say that Gallente ships are best for 0.0 or empire pvp. Drones get nuked by gate guns pretty quick so Gallente ships aren't as useful at low sec gate camps. The second problem is with the hybrid turrets blasters have **** for range and rails have **** for damage.
If you are looking to do low sec gate camps I would say go with Minmatar or Amarr. I fly with people who fly both races and they both can tank well and deal out the damage. So it just depends on your preferences. Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. We Are Recruiting |

I guess you're right, but my buddy was realy good with his Domi.
But then I used to get chased a few times and killed twice by a Vagabond in low sec belts but then I admit i was asking for it. *** |
