Wow :p
That article has some distortions, and some just outright madeup nonsense.
Firstly - There was no grand hacking attempt or success. :p Four days ago, an individual used a security loophole to redirect a small percentage of people browsing to our site to a fishing site. This fishing site would copy down the Blink cookie of those who visited it. The security hole was plugged almost immediately, and no harm to the site or any accounts was managed. :)
We love running Blink, and the community around it, but the one real downside is "Gamblers Regret." A few days before the shenanigans started, this person deposited 1.5b over the course of a day. He lost a few and won a few, but was so caught up in the excitement that he kept exchanging all of his wins for more credit until the only thing he successfully cashed out was a Tengu. As in most cases of Gambler's Regret, he chose to blame us for his decision to gamble that all away, and created an imposture corporation to try and scam deposits. When that was removed by GMs, he even went so far as to break state and federal laws trying (and partially succeeding) to "hack" the site. Now that that security hole is plugged, he's fishing for any other outlet that will join him in his outrage that he chose to send us isk and chose to gamble even his winnings away.
We've done our best to create a site that is fun, fair, and exciting to use - and for some people, they would rather try to scream and rage at and about us, instead of admitting that they chose to gamble more than they should have, or didn't walk away from the table when they could have. I am definitely impressed with your site. It is well coded, looks very clean, and is super easy to use. I enjoyed giving it a chance and losing (paying) you for a great looking site. That being said, please do not insult us by claiming your site is fair!
In my experience, I played 60 blinks with a 1 in 8 chance of winning. I did not win one of them. The real odds of that happening are 0.033%! [Chance of losing = 7/8, repeated 60 times = (7/8)^60] Your site is rigged, just please don't claim it is fair. Fun and exciting, yes. Fair, No Way!
It is actually very impressive that you made a site where people just hand you their ISK for nothing in return. Your site will go down as one of the legendary scams in eve (eg. Eddie Lampert and Mordor Exuel) when you finally admit what you are doing. Perhaps people are so addicted to Blink that they will continue to deposit their iskies even after your site is widely accepted as a scam. You could have had so much more...a legitimate business that made isk (and even real money) for many years to come. Instead...you will poof into oblivion and merely be a memory to the EVE saga.
If you still claim your site is completely fair, I guess I am super lucky... one in 3,017 lucky. |

I wouldn't go so far as to say its well coded. Could it be nominated for a front end design award? Sure. but well coded also includes the back end, which i would like to say is a mess of googly gop. If you only have one place on your entire website where a user could possibly enter information then there is absolutely no excuse for not properly sanitizing user input so that you don't open yourself up to a persisted XSS attack, its one of the worst xss attacks to even have as well. Absolutely terrible an inexcusable.
Other than that, the rest of your text is perfectly dead on.

Thanks for all the winnings and the 3 promos I've won to date after playing for a year or more(lost track) and for many more to come :P

Personally, I don't think it's a scam. It would be a dumb thing to do and they already make more than enough ISK from all the blinks. I've been living off of SOMER Blink the past two months so I don't feel scammed.
But, if it's true what Andrew Nox says, I think that the right thing to do would be an official post on the SOMER Blink website. Or here on the forum with a link from the SOMER Blink website.
I must say that it feels a bit suspicious that nothing of this is mentioned on the SOMER Blink website. If SOMER Blink is a serious and legit business, people will need to hear this from the admins and not through the grapevine. |

Hey, here is a great way for Blink to up their profit by way more than any Army of shill alts could produce,
Why don't they cut the number of promos from anywhere between 25 and 40 promos a day as they do now to just one every two hours or about 10 a day, and instead of inclucing dreads, 5 billion blink credits and other big buck prizes given away for free along with every other prize in their list of prizes. They could cut it down to frigs and cruisers. They could probably save over 100 bill a day right there. Oh, and the Mini-bonkks, also paid for with free tokens, just do away with those, and pump up their bottom line a few percent.
As long as we are increasing their profit, let's do away with the benchmark celebrations. They start those off by giving every member (50k +) a gift box with some nice minimum priced gift up to really expensive gifts, then the random doubling of prizes that come as a surprise after the prize is won could be done away with.
Shucks, getting rid of sponsoring things like AT X and the many other community activities could raise the bottom line, too.
If you have a stolen list of shills, I'd better be on it. I've had to live with the label of "The Biggest Shill in Eve History" ever since the earlier versions of the Tinfoil Belief Society stepped forward to make a lot of claims that got laughed off the forums and never produced their "proof" either.
And they always show up right at the Benchmark Celebrations. Always a bunch of new characters who strive to prove as quickly as possible they know absolutely nothing about the Theory of Probability and start quoting elementary school math examples of that would have to come from the "LAW of Probability". Well there ain't no LAW of Probability. There is only the law of sore losers who don't know how to gamble and certainly don't know when to quit when they start losing.
But go ahead, start quoting anecdotal examples and mis-quoting the definition of "Value of Blink Credit Won" which is not profit, but only a list of the prizes won, without taking losses into account. Go on, misrepresent "win-ratio" and forget that any player could have a 100% win ratio if they bought every ticket to every blink they entered and won themselves broke in a hurry doing it - I'm typing slower now so this part can be understood by more people - that means if your strategy is to buy one ticket and enter nothing but 8 ticket blinks, your win-ratio is going to be different from someone whose strategy is to buy 8 tickets on 16 ticket blinks. The actual win-ratio will then vary by the percent the players win. Given that the 8 ticket player on the 16 ticket blink has half of the possible winning tickets, the likelihood of winning might be higher than the player who only buys 1 of the 8 possible winning tickets or 12.5%. Now go ahead and compare those winning ratios as if the oranges are the same as the apples.
Tell us how the house always wins. - But remember that Blink does not have a hand in the game. To say Blinks's house always wins is to say your grocery store always wins. Each ticket sold by blink has a commission built into it which Blink uses to keep the doors open, the site running, the employees paid in isk, the prizes purchased or built, pay for the bonks which often give away more than they take in, the mini-bonks which have an entry fee of tokens players get free from just playing, pays for the billions available to each player for the awards the players achieve by just playing the game - and the community support of billions of isk to more community activities I can't name, because Blink does not spend a lot of time advertising those gifts, if they advertise them at all.
oh yeah, the shills. One of the things I was accused of shilling was to get more players to play more tickets on the big buck games. The quick story is I was playing 12 tickets on the 16 ticket games to win a a quite profitable side bet and I had a lot of friends helping me win that bet because as I was telling other players all along, 12 of 16 is a losing hand in the end, don't bet it. But following that strategy, I moved my "Value of Blink Credit Won" (remember, it is not profit) forward enough to win the bet. I do not have an exact figure of the loss sustained in Blink in achieving the bet outside of Blink because my friends were shoveling isk into my account and I have not and will not take the time to audit dozens of pages in my wallet. but the rough estimate of my friends is about 450 billion isk to advance my "value of Blink Credit Won (which is not profit) by one trillion isk and in the process, winning 8 crappily fit supers for my friends from a jerkwad.
So let's talk about shilling. How about encouraging other players to play more tickets on the Ultra Blinks. Blink has a total of ten blinks going at any time, they limit the Ultra and Mega blink games to two each, leaving the other six for smaller priced prizes. In fact, if the Ultras and Mega blinks are all full and I try to start a blink with one of the more expensive low range prizes, blink prevents having too many high priced blinks going at a time, so I have to start a blink with a less expensive prize. If they want high end prizes to dominate the game, why do they limit the the more expensive prizes. Have you ever watched how long it takes for some of the Ultra Blinks to sell 16 tickets? Average time? No idea. But I see Blinks going 40 to 60 minutes every day.
Shills "holding" tickets which could have been sold to a player - tickets on the Ultra-Blinks which usually cost 200 million plus, so when I was supposed to be shilling for hours at a time taking 12 tickets and leaving only 4 tickets for others to buy, I was holding well over 2 billion in tickets per blink - so if they were being given to me as a shill, they were not being sold to players, so 75% of each blink's income would be non-existent for hours at a time. |

But go ahead, Blink membership spikes everytime you guys get wound up. But you have drawn me into this as far as you are going to this time.
Every non-point you raise this time will have been aswered before and a little research will help anyone understand Eve and Blink even better, so have at it, but I'm not doing your homework for you.
Oh and this time, how about just sticking to Casinos - One of the alt's rant last time about Ponzi schemes really had nothing to do with Blink, or "Bling" as the ranter called it.
And you do know that because Blink gets the usual cut from the click thru Plex purchases that so many corps get which is the way the server gets paid for I guess, the Blink web site is engaged in a financial venture, so hacking into it is not like breaking into your little brother"s web site about frogs. You might want to talk to a real lawyer about that. It pays to have a professional opinion, you know. Enjoy 300T!!! I will !!
I know someone will say 450 billion / 8 supers... These guys would have helped win a bet against that whiney twerp for twice as much and 8 frigs ! |
