a compromise or solution would be that you could only bookmark stationary objects, belts (not roid), gates, stations planets etc and not roids/containers or open space.

so you are saying because i have a bookmark for the luminati system i am exploitiong?
Book marks are good, we need more of them. if your post was refering to instant jump/dock BM, then yes i see that as a exploit.
in future can you use more that 6 words when describing a problem?

Bookmarks are not an exploit. Instant jump/dock bookmarks are also not an exploit. You may not like that the innocent freighter just got past your blockade. Mabey that pirate got away from your well planed attack. That person had to put time and effort into creating that bookmark for their convience. The idea behind the bookmark is for relocating a spot in space to make your travel easier and less worrisom. Instant jumps fall into that catagory so quit complaining.
Now bookmarks in mid-warp might be an exploit and as useful as they are for getting out of trouble I can see how it is a bit unfair to be able to hide in a place that can not be reached other then by complete accident. However, it does bring a bit of balance to the game. Without bookmarks it would be way to easy to gank anyone you wanted at anytime by just waiting at stationary objects for them to warp to you. This is already the way that it is. Atleast bookmarks give the opprotunity to not get raped everytime you warp to a stationary object.

Quote: think it's a stupid idea to remove the ability to travel how you see fit. when you drive a car, do you drive as slow as my 98-year old granny? or have you implemented your experience behind the wheel to improve your travel times? i think most people use their "more-experienced" abilities. taking away this would be like making all drivers, no matter how experienced, to be forced to drive like a pansy just out of drivers' ed. stoopid...
people who use bookmarks to travel faster used insight to make their lives easier. why don't you use their insight against them instead of asking mommy and daddy (CCP) to change it for you?

Just to clear this up cause it was bothering me. How would this be a compromise? It would be a waste of time to bookmark stationary objects because you can warp to them without a bookmark.

To stop this "bookmark" exploits, its all very simple.
If you warp to a bookmark, AND you would end up being closer then 15km to any object (stargates, stations and so on), you simple just warp a little shorter (or maybe longer) you are at least 15km away from any such objects.
Problem solved. Placing bookmarks to be used to insta jump/dock exploit is removed (I would call it an exploit, even though it aint atm.). ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

BM are not exploit.
If you don't have BM for instadock create it yourself..:) If you don't know how.... try using brain.
If you are PK I understand that people with BM are problem for you

Once again, this is rediculas. If this were the case then bookmarks might as well be removed altogether.
Why is this even an issue. Bookmarks (including instant jump/dock) have been around for along time. Since way before retail. Infact, it used to be in beta that you could send bookmarks to other people through eve-mail but that was removed (much to my dismay). If it were an exploit then they would have been removed by now.
Mabey if I told you how to make instant jump bookmarks you would feel better about them.
1)Find a place you want to warp from. 2)Warp to your destination. 3)Move to aprox. 8000m to other side of object you want to instant jump to. (try to keep in the same line you were in when warping) 4)Make a bookmark 5)Name it something you will remember.
I like to name them from place warping from to warping to. For instance, Im in Pulin in the Sinq Liason region. I want to warp from the Basgerin gate to the Foves gate so I name it SL-Basgerin to Pulin. I put the bookmark in my Sinq Laison folder and use the right click menu to access the warp points. Its that easy.
Now mabey you will go out and spend countless hours making bookmarks for your convience. And it does take alot of time. In my example of Pulin there are 5 gates in the system. Thats 4 bookmarks from every gate to every other gate and there is also a base to make bookmarks for. Thats alot of bookmarks for one system. Now try it for an entire region.

well i agree!! we should get rid of bookmarks...they are an exploit!!! of course everything you warp to is a bookmark, every gate, every planet, every moon was bookmarked at 15km by CCP. so i guess you better train your navigation skills up and learn to use your directional scanner, cause its going to be tough to navigate without bookmarks.
so. if your ships computer can fly to a bookmark for all these objects at different distances (ie. 15, 20, 30, 40, 60km) AND be very accurate (i always drop out of warp and end up 14-16km from gate. why can't it be accurate enough to bookmark 1-2km away?
as for bookmarks in empty space. a bookmark is just a co-ordinate (x,y,z planes) so it should be able to bookmark anywhere, in fact you should be able to input your own co-ordinates and warp to that. why can this not be an option? because you could end up in the center of a planet so it wouldn't be logical to be able to input arbitrary co-ordinates to make a bookmark.

So, you are accussing CCP of exploiting since agents will give you bookmarks to pirate locations so as you can complete missions?

Bookmars are an essential part of the game. you simply can't remove them. To name but a few uses for bookmarks: 1. Commonly visited stations, so you don't have to remember which of 20 your agent is in 2. Commonly visited systems, so yuo don't need to hunt for it on the map each time 3. which asteroid field you left a secure can in. 4. Corp training areas 5. valuable resource fields 6. Agent missions target areas
etc. etc. etc
Are you saying that we should loose all this functionality and convinence just to stop people setting up some nav points to speed up their trip times on frequent runs. It's not like the Auto pilot can make use of them, you have to manually control the ship the whole way, and it takes quite a while to set them all up, so you can't have them everywhere.
My GPS I have now in 2004 on earth in Real life has the ability to place a bookmark as I drive to note a place of interest, are you saying in thousends of years time there will be no such equivalent? And before someone flames me for my last statement I know it is a game, but CCP themselves have stated over and over that a realistic aspect is one of their primary design goals.
And I can't believe they removed the ability to mail a book mark. That would be an excellent feature to have rather than having to shift drag it to a common location like a corp hanger or put it in a can and drop it in space for your buddy to pick up. The fact that you can still pass them around makes removing the mail ability pointless and annoying.

Ahem .... unless the things don't way that CCP said they would, this is *exactly* what putting up warp disruptor fields will achieve; ergo, the gate that you're actually camping, won't have insta-jump bookmarks to it, and you can catch everything. Meanwhile, the gates that nobody is camping, we can still whizz through at top speed and keep our travelling times down. Everybody's happy.
Since I've yet to see one ... DO these things actually work like they were supposed to?
