Hello I am to an extent new, but am close to getting a battleship. Right now I am skilling up the secondary skills (engineer, weapons up etc.) and am having trouble figuring out what BS will fit my play style. Its not too late for me to either choose a cal or gallente ship. I will mainly be looking at doing PVP in it, mostly in a small group but would like to be able web my own prey if need be. I really want something that hit from a decent distance, and would like something with a decent lock time. I really like the Brutix, but dislike the short range guns. Would I be able to fit rails on it and still be a serious contender? I have also thought about perhaps a scorpion but I dont know if I want to be completley reliant on the ecm. So can you all give me some advice? Perhaps even some ship loadouts for a brutix using rails?
Thanks!

if you're asking a question like this then in almost all cases, you're better off pvping in a hac or a ceptor because their mass will cost you more than their theoretical dps will translate into reality and it may slow your group
use the big ship, raven or nighthawk ideally, to make you isk and learn more--there is plenty of time to figure out what you want and choosing one thing doesn't rule out the rest of your ship options--that said you seem to like larger ships with range, I'd recommends the 250mm eagle over a sniping brutix though ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Well basically you hit the nail on the head. I am in a pvp corp now, and have done some. I am flying a standard 1600mm thorax now and hate it. I hate needing to get so close. I do enjoy using missles though.
So the long range Dom is pretty much out?

If your looking for a long range ship, for pvp in either the Caldari or Gallnte races, you can't go far wrong with a Rokh, which is an excellent railgun sniper ship.
I do have to echo the poster above comments though, untill your absolutley ready to fly a battleship in pvp, don't. Experiment with a few different cruisers, battlecruisers, and if you have the skill points invested perhaps either hacs or command ships. Once you have found a ship type that suits you, you'll often find a battleship of the same role.

I can fully tell you what I am looking for. I want a ship that is effective at 20-40km. I want something that can web if need be, and tanks over damage.

Seems you'll want to be aiming for a Rokh as a battleship.
Good for gangs? Yes, other can tackle, you just TURN ON ZE GUNS. Range? With rails, extreme range. With blasters, good enough. t2 neutrons can blast Null out to 32km, antimatter still scores decent hits at 15-18km with good skills.
If you prefer missiles, then a torpedo-raven with a MWD, a few painters and a decent buffer tank will do nicely. Enough range for pvp, solid dps against battlecruisers and larger.
I would however, suggest pvp'ing in smaller ships to start with. Ask the guy running the gang what he needs and try to slot in there. Most gangs appreciate a skilled tackler as well as a good anti-support (Eagle for example: Snipe out tacklers and recons/logistics). Talk to the other battleship pilots in your corp and see what they use then skill up accordingly.

Are there no viable missle options outside of a raven?

Scorpion is a nice addition to any gang. Can lob missiles at ze baddies, jam everything in sight and if you REALLY want one you could put a web on it.

Scorpion has been what I have been leaning towards for a long while as well, my question is though, if I fail to jam am I automatically dead against say a decent cruiser?

No. Very no. I assume you will be in a gang...if you fail to jam something that is an immediate threat to you someone in your gang will be adjusting fire to keep you safe. Well, unless **** is going **** up then it's over anyway.

a solo battleship is almost universally a lossmail waiting to happen, flying big ships on the assumption that bigger is better is a bad bad thing
that said, for most ECM based ships you can't tank or do anything at all but use ECM, but that's by design ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

Scorpion = primary. Unless all hostiles are jammed or about to be ultraganked by massive firepower, you're going to get shot. A lot. And you won't survive very long.
If you get to start the engagement, you have a MUCH better chance since you can warp in further away and pray they aren't nano'd up. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

the most popular (good) caldari missile ships are:
1.drake 2.raven 3.cerberus
I would say in that order. What you need to understand is that caldari shine in groups. Don't go soloing in anything other than a drake.
But if you really wanna use a missile ship my adivce is train for a sacrilege because it's awesome.

Edited by: Tai Paktu on 02/04/2008 10:58:24 I've posted a Scorp fit a few days back that can run with spidergangs and can be pretty nice.
Basically it's 4 torp launchers, 2 remote reps, jammers, 2 rolled tungstens, 1 DC II and a signal amp plus 3 trimarks. People lol but if you're running with a bunch of 'phoons, 'pests, Megas, Domis, 'geddons etc. all running trimarks, plates and remote reps you can still be quite useful. Yeah, you're still primary. Always, always primary but you've got a nice bufferank and if your gang is half decent you've got enough remote reps to last awhile too.
Drake can be nice in gangs, Cerb can be nano'd well and if you train for T2 precisions, you're the bane of nano pilots, especially if you get a Minnie recon in gang.
Beyond that, you could always try for drone skills and then do a nano Ishtar. I've seen rail fits for the Brutix and Deimos etc. but I just lub blasters too much. All in, balls to the wall and all that. ______

One of my alts uses a Hyperion & before you flame me for this choice of ship let me throw in the skills pot which makes a big difference. The clue is that the alt can fly a Kronos so the Gallente BS skills are at level 5.
Fit this ship for PVE with 8 350mm protype guass & plutonium ammo with 10 mixed medium drones & it is a level 4 wrecker. Fit the right tec2 or faction resists per mission & with 2 True Sansha large armor repers you can repair 3000 armor damage per cycle & not run out of cap by just pulsing the 2nd repper when needed. The downside is that you need very high BS skills to get the best from this ship but from what I have seen it is worth it because of the armor repair bonus. I don't like 425mm guns in missions- 350's do the job slower but they conserve your cap better.

Tempest.
Raven cant fit web + scram + mwd and have sensible tank. Amarr ships have same problem (injector+mwd+scram = lack of web).
Other than pest you can try 350mm mega (tad gimped damage but can fit nice tank + web etc). Also mega will give you good sniper or good blasterboat if you decide to play "under 20km melting".
EDIT: oh yea i forgot amarr have apoc and abaddon ;p Sorry guys only BS i fly in closerange gangs is geddon :)
