The EVE client will not start if you have a network home folder, it simply disappears after showing on the dock for a split second. Login as the same user with the home folder on the local drive and it will run.

Same here, but for me it started when I created a new user. Since then I can only run the client on this new account. I run both accounts with admin privileges. Tried to reinstall EVE - no luck. Checked permissions - looks just fine.

Sorry about the mild thread necro.
I'm experiencing exactly the the same problem. On local accounts, Eve runs fine. On network accounts, it doesn't launch. The network accounts are authenticated against Open Directory running on an XServe, and the home directories are automounted using AFP from an XServe RAID.
Rather gallingly, with our old network accounts it worked perfectly. They used NIS on a tired old linux (SLES 9.2) box for authentication, and automounted home directories by NFS from another tired old SAN running SLES. Now we've updated and are doing things the "Apple way", Eve is borked.
Worse still, I don't hold out much hope for a fix, because I guess that people running network accounts aren't high on Transgaming's list of people to keep happy.

(I've bug reported, BTW).

have you tried to make your ~/Library/Preferences/EVE\ Online\ Preferences/ file a local file? if you have access to the WOrkGroup Manager and are on 10.5 this is easy.. if you don't have access you can do it manually
log in, open terminal and try these commands.
-> mkdir -p /tmp/USERNAME/EVE -> rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/EVE\ Online\ Preferences/ -> ln -s /tmp/USERNAME/EVE ~/Library/Preferences/EVE\ Online\ Preferences/
Replace USERNAME with your login name. What this will do is move the preference folder to the local drive. you will need to do this with each system you log into and your preferences will not follow you between systems. If you want that you will need to write a login/out hook.

I'd like to state, for the record, that I'm an idiot and that if there's any justice in this world my employers should fire my sorry arse. I should be thrown out of the Scary Devil Monastery.
Yes, having a local preferences directory fixes the problem. Quite why I didn't think of trying this myself, when I did something similar a couple of weeks ago to get Illustrator working on these machines, I don't know.
Thanks for the help.
