I feel that you bring up a good discussion, but I don't agree with the variations for items. How would this be any different from the variations that currently exist? There exist different types for everything, so basically you would just be adding more items and make it more difficult to follow a certain "sub-item's" price fluctuations. People would still buy the cheapest available item, only they would chose one of the qualities. So it's like buying a different cruiser entirely. As for all the questions why the current state of the economy is a bad one, well lets just take a quick look at the most important rule of economics: The best economy is not the highest growth it's the highest SUSTAINABLE growth. EVE's current growth is not sustainable, soon we will get huge ammounts of inflation, we will buy super low and sell super high. IMO the solution to this problem lies in the fact that there is not investment and there is nothing resembling interest rates. If we look at real world economy it is represented by the stock market index. The stock market is an essential part of a real world economy it allows the individuals to come together and push the economy in a certain derection. But interest rates set the stock market index, and these are set by banks (one bank per country actually). I believe decentralization of the market is a good -idea and should be implemented. The whole over-supply is also a very serious issue. The main difference between a virtual and real economy is population growth. In the real world, population is constantly growing, and so we constantly consume. Although EVE is growing, it's not doing so fast enough. So a good option is to add trade items that can be made with BP's. Trade items which would be bought by NPC's, this would be, undrestandably, somewhat against the whole virtual economy idea, but even in the real world, there are certain people which sometimes pump money into and economy to keep it afloat (for example, America's current economic crisis + severly low interest rates as set by the Federal Reserve to pump up it's economy). I feel that these items should have npcs that buy at a set prices in order to keep the economy running and to move attention away from the player useable items, thus allowing a build up of demand which will eventually be met. Anyway, thats just my two cents :P
