I'm playing with the market and having fun -- I go run missions then take the money to buy things and resell, mostly ammo (because I like my wallet to flash frequently).
I investigated a competitor and bought his annoying 100 rounds of ammo sell order, and it just kept popping back up. I bought it 4 times. Each time the 100 amount sell order would remain.
So here's the question, is this some kinda of trick? A market macro? Maybe he has 100 sell orders of 100 each?
thanks!

If the "Expires in" column has 364 days listed on it, that is an NPC Order, and not a player. This is probably what you are seeing.

Thanks Wad. The time on the order was 89 days, so not an NPC.
Unfortunately, I did not check the time on the first purchase of the 100 ammo.

If you have a existing sell order out that is lower, then your attempt to buy the higher priced item will fail. Looking over your trans log or journal should show a buy followed by a sell immediately for the exact same price. I do not know if this a bug or game design.
I did experience your exact issue only once in the last week and the seller did indeed have about 8 sell orders for the exact same price in Tash-Murkon. Rather annoying.

Would this not be down to the fact that a lot of people like to buy 100 units of ammo to load up their weapons, and not 400 or 1000 pieces that would sit in the cargo hold until required?
The seller probably thought they would get better results if they spread the orders out into smaller chunks. Its a constant wallet flasher, rather than waiting for that player who wants 1000 units of the same ammo immediately. |

Errrm.... OK
You know when dealing with the market interface you can choose how many units you can purchase at any one time. You aren't restricted to buying the quantity listed. |

You cannot buy from a specific order.
If you click on an order, and select buy, what you are doing is setting up an instant buy order, which then buy's from the cheapest sell order available that can fill it.
So, if, for example, you have a sell order in the same station lower than the one you are clicking on to try to buy, you will in fact be buying from yourself (which is basically just a waste of broker fees and taxes). |

There must be an advantage somewhere in terms of fees etc then.

I use to select a sell order with high enough quantity of items and litte variation of the cheapest sell order to buy large quantities. I tried filling in a higher number a few times (say 100 on a 37 items sell order) and always only got 37 items and not all the cheaper items + a bit of the selected order. Was my assumption wrong then? Could be... never tried it anymore. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. You're probably trying to buy the order that isn't the cheapest (make sure you're sorting by price rather than jumps). No matter which order you click to buy, the cheapest sell order is the one that is actually sold.
You wind up *paying* the price of the higher order, but the money goes to the guy with the cheaper order.
