Ok. I can't reply in my original thread, because it was closed. My complaint was getting podkilled as a noob in hi-sec space. The problem with this is that as a new player, there is NO way to defend yourself from being warped disabled and gang-r$%4d by a bunch of goons in destroyers. What satisfaction is there in gang-attacking a new player that cannot possibly defend themselves and has no valuable cargo? The only response I can possibly have for this is to concede that this game is not intended to be played by anyone that was not around since beta (or at least for a year to year and a half). The new player has no chance. Tried to look at joining a corp, but they all have sp requirements that I cannot meet (generally 2-3 mil sp. After two weeks, I am just over 1.1 million). in order to gain sp, you have to put in physical time. What do I do while I am waiting for this time to pass? i try and run courier and mining missions in hi-sec space. I can't even do that without a bunch of frat boys screaming ..hey let's kill the noob.
This juvenile bahvior, coupled with the profanity, drug references, and general indifference to the problem by the devlopers strengthens my opinion that this game is not worth it.
I am sure that i am not the only one who feels this way. And telling me, boo hoo, that is just what eve is, stop crying, ect.. is not addressing the issue in an intelligent manner. If you think I just suck it up, delete your current characters and start over from scratch. Come have the same kind of fun (*not*) that the rest of us noobs are having.
And, let me put some of the common response out there right off the bat:
1) Don't fly anything you can't afford to lose. >> Umm..NOOB! What don't you get? Can't afford to fly anything besides a frieghter or a cruiser. that is WHY I am getting ganked everytime I leave the station.
2) Even Hi-sec space is not safe. It is only SAFER. >> Well, running your first couple sets of starter missions ought to be relatively easy, yet i have been killed 5 times and podded once. Only one of these deaths has come at the hands of PVE pirates.
3) ha ha..stupid Noob. >> I won't dignify this with a real response.
So...before I do as i originally intended and kiss my 3 month sub goodbye (purchased the 3 month because it was at a discounted rate and this seemed like a reasonable amount of time to give a game a fair chance) does anyone have anything constructive to add to this discussion that might persuade a frustrated new player to stick around? Or, are you guys just happy to keep the status quo, watch the number of p[layers slowly decline, and harrass and drive away every noob you possibly can? I am also curious about the average demographic of eve players? How many are adults (folks over 30), tweens (15-29) and kids. Seems from casual observation of the bahavior in the beginer chat, that there are alot of 15-29 year olds primarily. It also seems that the vast majority of folks are single male unemployed drug users. Is this accurate?

Load of ****
I killed players when i was a month old. Also killed players much older (year +) when i was about 5 or 6 months in the game.

And it's not so difficult to escape with your pod in highsec. If you can't do it the normal way you can always ctrl-Q. Learn to play the game and stop whining

You really have a thing about drugs, don't you? I'd try to figure out whence this obsession of yours stems.
And you may be perplexed to learn that the player base has consistently increased over the last 4 years.
Face it, Eve isn't for you. That's not a bad thing, just the way it is.

Eve doesn't need players of your poor mindset and attitude anyway. You're better off not playing an MMO that operates over the internet, 'cause the 'problems' you cite, such as:
Quote: juvenile bahvior, coupled with the profanity, drug references, and general indifference
Are a symptom of the internet - you plugged a phone line into your computer, welcome to the rest of the world.
I got my first kill at just under 1.3M SP, in a Rifter with T2 autocannons. I learned how to live through warp bubble gate camps in 0.0, and found that it hasn't got jack all to do with SP when I did it in a shuttle vs. a 'dictor.
Simply put, this game just isn't for folks like you.
Quote: are you guys just happy to keep the status quo, watch the number of p[layers slowly decline
For each one of you who just can't get past the learning curve:
Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. Link, for if they nerf the image.
There are 30,000 more who log on every single day, and thousands of new trial accounts created, out of which the game gains more players than it loses.
We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

When a piece puts the king into check mate that's the game over, the king can never hope to survive the attack, the game is not about how well your king can defend itself but not being in the position to try those defences.

I'm not sure what kind of problem you are having, but if you convey it in a calm manner, somebody might be able to help you.
You say you got killed 5 times and podkilled in highsec.
You are 17 days old in an NPC corp, while theoretically you could be attacked and podded, I see no reason why anybody might take the time and effort to do so.

You have three choices:
1/ Quit 2/ Stay and shut your pie hole 3/ Stay and flap your pie hole
Or you could choose 2.5, which is my personal preference. But don't ask people to convince you to stay; that's ridiculous.

Oddiex,
Its the epitome of EVE forum skill, and indeed smack talk in local, to wheep with laughter at any misfortune that befalls a fellow player - even more so if you are yourself responsible for it.
It quite valuable to bear in mind that everyone in EVE has, at one stage or another, been the 'victim' of said misfortune.
Having survived this unpleasant indoctrination, you can then progress to the delghts of inflicting missery on other smaller life forms than yourself and so on and so forth.
In order to facilitate your rapid progression from 'ganked' to 'ganker' I point you in the direction of a fine corporation called Eve University. Under their tutalage and guidance you will mature from a feeble sapling to a mighty oak, ready to spout forth much yarrage from the confines of your trusty frigate until such point when you run into a bigger, nasty blob of gankers.
From here you should seek out master Rells of Agony Unleashed to refine your trembling spirit and fit T2 guns. So armed you will be able to confidently amass vast sums of other peoples stuff and live out a life of luxury in your station. But, young padawan, your training is not yet complete.
You must read the Great Works of the scibe 'Tarminic' learning the subtle art of Forum Warrioring. From there you can fight the true battle of EVE here on the EVE-O forums whilst you wait to train for a carrier like the rest of us.
Good luck.

Indeed, the only ways you could have been attacked and killed in highsec are:
Wardec - your in an NPC corp, so imposable.
You stole from someone else’s can/wreck - stop stealing stuff.
You killed a crapton of people and their all using their killrights on you - highly unlikely.
Your being suicide ganked often - Seriously unlikely, there is no reason or value in killing noobs.
You shot something your not supposed to and have been undocking with a criminal timer and getting concorded. - only one that actually makes any sense.
Your not actuley in highsec (0.5 and above) and have been going into lowsec (0.4 and below) before your ready.
It has to be one of these things, and i find the storey of you being suicided multiple times extreamley unlikeley unless you've really ****ed someone off somehow. -

please ignore all the jack holes who just post rude remarks. this game is not nice to new players...
if you are really getting griefed so much, and suicide ganked and podded in hi-sec, it is probably by the same people every time and you can petition a GM that they are harrassing you.
if you are going into low-sec and getting ganked you need to learn the difference between hi-sec and low-sec. basically, avoid any system with security status below 0.5.
EVE is really BIG and you may just want to relocate to a different system or region where you can play the game in peace. if they follow you and hunt you down, then once again, petition harassment.
and not every player corp has minimum SP requirement. post in the recruiting channel and i am sure you will get a number of offers.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Wrong, I see this said every year of every month by a noob. The same thing was said when I first started 2 years ago, "oo this game is unfair, all the beta players will own you, this game sucks, I quit, no you can not have my stuff.". With that said, this game is for people with common sense, if you don't have that than you will not make it a few months in the game without doing ******** stuff and getting owned. I see it all the time, a little noob going out to mine a little, not having a care in the world, goes to a belt and see people there and thinks to himself " o I'm a noob, they won't bug me la la de de la la rainbows and sunshine...WTF WHY ARE THEY SHOOTING ME BBQOMFG THIS GAME SUCKS THOSE RED FLASHING PEOPLE WITH SKULLS KILLED ME FOR NO REASON, I AM JUST A NOOB IN MY CRUISER THAT TOOK ME 1 WEEK TO GET, I QUIT!!!!111!"
In short, grow up, get over it, learn from your mistake and become better. ;)
Why do you consider this a "torrent of vitriol"? And no, they were not. I have not communicated with anyone in game other than the guy that turned me on to the game (who unfortunately does not play much. All of the deaths I talk about occcured in 8 or higher sec space, and prior to my EVER posting on the EVE forums. Being told off here for expressing that I feel I am having a hard time just reinforces the feeling that this game is not noob friendly. Thank you to the one polite reply.
