The best part of your posts is that it puts paid to the notion that "piracy is dead" that so many people here whine about. Seems like you are making a great living doing it.
Once again I am shocked how a noob gets in a battleship. How they ever afford a 100 mil ship with 27% cargo expanders on top of that (probably adding another 40 mil or so) and then act surprised when something like this happens is beyond me. What rock were they hiding under to not understand EVE game mechanics while accumulating all that wealth? I can certainly see why they would not be happy about any of this but surprise should not be a part of it.

The tardkart strikes again.
On topic. It's low security space for a reason, you have to be extra careful if you're taking something you don't want to loose. Scouting helps.

I'm a newbie of four days, now. And maybe it's not my place to point out blatant hilarity, but this.. I can't help it.
"insurance is for going out to 0.0"

Again,
I won't even leave a 1.0 base without first purchasing insurance on any rusted hunk of junk I purchase! Don't other people get told horror stories of kamikaze pilots blowing things up before Concord gets there? Or that Concord won't exactly help you .4 or lower systems? No insurance on a battleship.. *boggle* And equipped for mining.. Did he at least have escorts?
Geez, now I know why people lose battleships.

I would insure my BS for mining events in 1.0 after loosing a few Apocs that were not insured. 0.4 systems and lower are all Empire Pirate zones which are not qualifyed for mining except with good protection atm. at least.

This should be a sticky in newbie section. An unusually sensible post.
But this guy is unusually sensible. Most new players take a while to get to grips with the mechanics. However a player in a megathron should be more sensible.

Wow, don't know what to say - except while I can't see myself pirating anytime soon (corp rules etc), I actually would be inclined to kill the megathron pilot in low sec space just to partake in that priceless convo with his mate!
I don't know about the rest of you but the way I see it, this is EVE - a very savage future where people should pay for being just this stupid. If someone actually comes down into low space with an uninsured ship, they are asking for it. And to state a Megathron is a 'mining ship' and actually berate a pilot for taking it down? Priceless. I get the feeling ignorant players like this must just spend months mining without understanding the game and then in one fell swoop throw away all their hard work. And they probably do it in droves from the looks of the number of newbies in battleships.
Hell if I come down to low sec space, my ship will be insured and it will be ready to fight. If it goes 'boom', fair game. If the pirate goes 'boom', thats even better ;) Now isn't that how this game works or did I miss something? -----
--- 'The truth about low sec space is that it reveals humanity - the 'essence' of all the races, in its purest form. A place where Concord no longer polices or protects, 'human nature' thrives in all its distilled destructive self-serving glory. Welcome to hell ladies and gentlemen, welcome to what it really is to be human.'

Why would anyone put 27% exp on a BS ?
Surely they are better suited to indies anyway ?

My first instinct, given this guy's track history to date, is that he needed the bigger cargo hold so he could then spend more time AFK while mining in 0.4

Well it was a good clean kill tho i would not have done it myself cause thats not the way i operate it is an interesting topic, the way i see it is if you can not defend it you cannot own it, things happen and insurence is a god send when dealing with low sec space, i have lost ships luck for me i have also had insurence, with the new implimentation of the 40% of the ship value this person might be able to make up the rest for a new ship in a few days mining outta a cruiser, i pitty him but hey this is part of the game, PVP is there, and those ships are called BATTLESHIPS because they are made for that one purpose. Mining in low sec with a bs alone has never been the best thing to do, now ninja mining with a punisher isnt so bad , a word of advice if u plan on mining in low sec make a bm somewhere far away from anything that way if you see something suspicious or someone just doesnt rub u right as he comes into system u can at least go there and hang out till its safe, or even log out once again im sorry for his loss but this is a PVP game after all, u dont take a bs and kit it to mine and not be prepared to deal with the consequences of getting killed in low sec. I dont mean to offend anyone and if i did i am sorry these are some of my personal views that i choose to share i dont want to impose it onto anyone else just thought id put in my 2 isks

That's the problem with Corps that give BS to newbies. IMO is a waste of money.
EVE is a dangerous place (and that's why is so FUN!!! )

LOL Rodge... not seen you around for a while.
It's pretty straightforward though, get a battleship when you want and do what you want with it... as long as you know that it can die like any other ship, there isn't really a problem with it. Some people just seem to think it, and them, are/should be invincible.

synapse, i can appreciate the problem, but... will you and other locals patrol lowsec empire space for trouble, respond to distress calls, etc..? IMHO this is half the problem. The other half of the criminal player equation is missing, or limited to formal declared wars. We need to "walk a beat" more :D
