Hey guys,
I don't know if i'm using the right term here, but i think it's close. I would like to have a Raven fitted for speed to tackle a Megathron solo and stay out of web range while holding it down.
Please post some good fittings, no faction mods as i cannot afford them at this point. Also do you think this setup will have a high % of success against said ship - Mega on 1v1.
Cheers,
Black

You're better off just going into web range and killing him. Raven can beat mega 1v1 provided you start at 20km or so.

It might help if you explain a little more of what you mean by this.
Are you planning to try and control range by keeping the Megathron at 10-20 km so that you can keep a point on him, but not get webbed?
In that case I would thing something along the idea of torps in the hi's; MWD, warp disruptor, shield booster and therm/kin hardeners in the mids; BCU's and overdrives/nanos in the lows.

That is exactly the idea, i'm wondering if this is a win setup of if the Mega would be able to easily sharply change direction and get me webbed or just be able to break out of my hold and warp off..

Can you suggest a fitting?

Overheated T2/faction Siege launchers with faction torps. Add 4x BCS to complete the gank. Rest of the slots are MWD and HP buffer.
Then pray the mega pilot doesn't have an Exile booster handy.

Trying to dictate range in a Raven vs a Mega is going to be nearly impossible. Either you'll fall within webrange of you'll get outside scram range, pretty much. Might as well just divebomb ...

Edited by: Omarvelous on 07/04/2008 19:53:53 Its a tight fit (AWU IV), but this is what I would go for:
3x Ballistic Control Unit II Co-Processor II Damage Control II
Quad-Lif 100MN MWD Warp Disruptor II Invulnerability Field II 2x Large Shield Extender II ECCM - OMNI II (you'll be happy if your opponent uses ECM drones)
6x Siege Missile Launcher II 2x Heavy Unstable heavy Neuts (best named)
3x Praetor EV-900 Drones
Rigs: 3x Ancillary Current Router
Your attack is two pronged. First your 900+ DPS coming in ~30km, and then your dual heavy neuts and heavy NOS drones to kill the opponent's cap. Most Megathron/Gallente blaster boats: cap = life. The passive hitpoint buffer admittedly is weak, however it frees you to cycle your heavy neuts for a few minutes. The 3 heavy Neut drones will pulse and act like a medium neut in addition to your heavy neuts. Even if the opponent is running a cap injector they will have a hard time keeping their armor rep going. The key is to MWD away from the blaster boat the whole time to maximize the time your torps are hitting them while they try to get into blaster optimal range ~10km.
If they go completely passive armor HP buffer then I would drop the Neuts (and ACR) and drones for shield extender rigs and combat/ecm drones.
Its tough to setup an effective Torp Raven for a 1v1 duel - its really meant to tag with a tackler/support. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

Highs 6 seige 2's (rage or faction torps)
Mids MWD t2 scram (24km range) heavy cap booster (optional, but highly desire-some if you want to be able to run the mwd for more than about 30 seconds) 2 t2 invuln 1 large shield extender (2 w/out the cap booster)
Lows 3 BCU 2's 2 pdu (maybe 1 rcu if you need pg) or 1 pdu/1dcu
rigs 3 shield amount rigs (forgot name)
The mega will probably catch you, if he's unrigged, but if he doesn't have rigs you'll probably be able to last longer anyways. If rigged, you might be able to stay out of his way with smart flying - just remember that the raven is not very agile, and you WILL need the cap boosters to keep that MWD running.
Another option is to try to jam a heavy neut in one of the highs, though i'm not sure what it would take to actually fit it. Just be careful, because until he comes to a stop or at least turns the MWD off, your torps aren't going to be doing THAT much damage to him (explosion radius of 250 base, and the mega can get up to close to 1km/s).
Feel free to modify according to skills/isk.

Hey m8,
you mean no active tank and just gank, am i getting this correctly?, I guess i can use Kin+therm res instead?

That's what i'm afraid, BSs aren't that agile to modify range at will, i was hoping to control range at least in the beginning to gain advantage and then even if i get into web range it woudln't matter much as I would have already gotten the upper hand..

Hey Arazel, all the fittings without a Shield boost, even with 1 or 2 LSE, do you think i won't melt before him? Megas can tank pretty well, to face a 1-2LSE passive raven tank.. ofc if i'm betting on him not hitting me at all it's fine, but as soon as he gets in range, that's that..
How about a XL Booster and a painter to max torp damage?

Most likely won't have the grid/CPU to spare for a proper active tank and both ships will be pumping out near 1k DPS. So LSEIIs, hardners and damage control. If both pilots know what they're doing the winner will be walking away in structure.
Really depends on quality of the megathron pilot in question. Even after several nerfs it's a beast to be feared when in the proper hands.

That's what i'm afraid off, now add Medium ECM drones which he would probably field.. any counter for that as well?
I am trying to cover all angles, not go there and be oh sh.. jammed 3-4 times while i either die or he warps off.. both being not the desired results of course..

You might consider using 3 web drones?
They might allow you to dictate range, and while they will get killed by the megathron, it might take long enough that you will have sufficient upper hand to win.

That might be a sweet distraction for the other guy :) need to check stats.. ECM might also work in such case i guess, but that won't prevent him from moving around..
On the other hand he might use ECM, a bomb might be required on my end..

So nobody can give me a viable setup except a no-tank raven or an "oh you'll never be able to keep it between web/scram range" replies? :(

Edited by: Arazel Chainfire on 07/04/2008 21:36:23 Unless you have crystals in your head, I wouldn't suggest an active tank. As someone already said, you will probably have trouble fitting one with the rest of the setup. Also, in a fight like this, unless you somehow manage to kite him really well, you will end up with him in your face and buffer becomes sooo much more important. Also, with MWD and scram and booster (booster is necessary for an active tank w/ torps), you're going to be running a 3 slot tank... and unless you have some wicked faction/officer gear on that, you're going to be in a real loosing battle with just 3 slots.
One thing you may want to consider doing is putting in a large smartbomb in one of your remaining highs. The mega if max skilled might be able to do 1000 dps with blasters, though more likely it will only be around 800 or so. The rest of his dps (about 300 to 350) comes from his drones, which are also the only threat to you when you're about 20km or so out (most likely, he won't be loading null).
As for your drones, web or ecm drones are nice. However, there is a fairly good likelyhood that the mega will be running a smartbomb, so I wouldn't count on them for long. Personally, I'd probably go with 5 medium ecm and 5 light ecm, or 3 heavy ecm.
-Arazel
Edit - just noticed your last reply, a large smartbomb will pretty much instakill any ecm drone, so I'd definately stick at least one in the last high.

Goodie, Thanks Arazel, to sum up passive tank, hoping to outdamage the guy and keep him at distance for long enough to get the upper hand..

And a good torp raven pilot will outdamage a null megathron by far. Just saying...
