I have recently entered the good old profession of pirating. I am looking to help some miners and travelers out by releasing them from the burden of thier ships and isk.
I can fly any Caldari ship and have the skills to use any (or near enough)any mod I want. What I want to know what is the the best ship class to hit and miners with, a Frigate fast, hit and run attacks or Cruiser a more strategic lock down/heavy firepower?
Now I have read lots of different opinions on both these styles but would like to know in general what is the best way?
You want it I got it....erm unless I sold it, then some one else has it!?! :/

and after reading all those opinions you still haven't realized that is exactly what it is, opinions, there is no such thing as THE best anything. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I would use a thorax with blasters to quicky pummel my enemy into submission. I would also hunt in EC-P8R as it is rife with pleasures and there is rarely anyone besides miners and transports to mess with. Feel free to come hang out with me or Karmae there if you find yourself feeling bored. kthxbye.

Thorax with 6 mining lasers... if you cant assemble a setup yourself, you shouldnt start with pirating...

Thanks for all the good replies!
To any other guy who wants to have a quick dig feel free to post below.
I can set up my ship fine but was just asking the question to get a few more opinions on what they concider to be a good set up or ship to use.
I will go hide behind a rock for the rest of the day now.

Personally, I'd say if you want to pirate alone get an interceptor and kill indies for their cargo expanders. If the other guy has any backup then YOU are the prey as a lone pirate, so a fast ship will be a big help. Besides, if you REALLY want to wait around goodness knows HOW long for the 1 hauler in 5o that isn't using an instajump bookmark, at least you can amuse yourself with some fancy flying...
If you can't use an interceptor, you could always become a Kestrel cruise missile ganker. I think there are one or two systems left in EVE that don't have a Kestrel pirate yet. Maybe.
