Allright, after almost a month playing eve and talking to some guys in my corp and here on the forum i decide it's a good thing to create a second account i use for mining. My current main has more combat driven skills so it would be wise to leave it that way.
Now... i would like to play with the gallente for the RP aspect and although a caldari is better for mining... the RP part is also important and because i like the gallente i like to stick with them :)
Could someone give me some advise in what attributes i have to set? I allrady got myself 5 implants that my corps mates gave me at a resonible price (+3 implants).

It's true that the Rokh, properly set up, has a higher mining yield than any other ship. However if you aren't jetcan mining then this high yield is useless, given the ship's base cargo capacity (you can't really extend it much since you need mining upgrades in the lows.) However if you don't want to go the way of the Rokh, it doesn't matter what race you train for, since Exhumers don't rely on racial ship skills.

well i'm not jetcan mining. That's one of the reasons why i create a second account. so 1 can mine while my main can haul the ore back. Perhaps i jetcan for 10 min if my hauler is on route to a station or so.
What attributes should i boost from start?

The mining skills alone won't take a long time to train. Willpower and perception will help you get into Exhumers or mining Battleships quicker, since those two attributes affect spaceship command. You can always make it a mining/industry alt, in which case the attributes to boost would be whatever were the most common two attributes for industry skills. The spaceship command part and the mining laser part together do not require nearly as much time to train up as good industry skills, especially if you've already got some +5 implants.

astrogeology V takes quite a while to get if your men and int are low. quite a while. couple weeks total in fact
however, you dont want to be in a 100m isk hulk that has only a 9m isk insurance payout without some tanking skills on that miner. plus you will need electronics and engineering skills to fit more t han three strip miner 1's and one MLU. ideall you want to be able to fit a medium shield booster, but with only engineering 4 and 3 strip miner 1's a hulk (and covetor) have only 9 power left.
it will take you far less time to get into that rokh. whether or not you can fit all the turrets with miners is another story entirely.

So it's better i cross train for caldari ships right from the beginning and leave the gallente ships for what they are...

if your combat account is going to be flying cover, i would recommend you make your gallente for your stated rp desires, and go straight into barges using whatever the gallente mining frigate is.
mine into jet cans. fleet them and have your combat char drop the can. if someone flips it, your combat char can fight them off. get a corp mate to haul for you, or train gallente industrial up a couple (3 is good enough to get by) and have the miner haul - again with the combat guy watching

To be honest, I prefer Gallante ships especially for mining and manufacturing. In particular, the Gallante industrial ships are the best T1 haulers of any race (up to 38,000m3). So for mining itself, stick to training up for a Hulk as they really can mine a lot of ore every cycle and can fit T2 strip miners and MLU's.
That way you have the benefit of having a godly mining ship and a huge industrial ship to haul the cans.
Hmmm...NICE BELT, IT'S MINE ALL MINE!!! |

What I did - was to train my combat guy to be a hauler as well. Then team mine between the Hauler and Miner.
Put a book mark in the can to keep it open. Ore only stays in the can long enough to transfer to the hauler.
Hauler is trained with Salvager & Tractor beams.
Miner carries combat drones.
All my characters have relatively balanced attributes. Maybe a little high or low on one thing or another but nothing really skewed.
Everyone needs all their attributes. You have to skill to fly ships and you have to skill to equip them.
What I do when I'm building a character - is to go through the attribute point assignment part then go on to the ancestery stuff. Then, I look at the points I can pick up from ancestry - then knowing which ancestry I'm going to pick - I go back and change the attribute point allocation so that the character is balanced.
If you short anything - short charisma - but not to much as training the Social Skills can really help you with missions and standings with NPC agents and corps.

caldari/achura/inventors/engineer are the most balanced attribute wise starting out
a miner that goes into barges will need balanced attributes if you plan to max out completely. mining barges and exhumers are very long trains as it is, and at the same time you need several mem/int based skills to even get those ship skills going.
the intaki/reborn is the better industrialist, but those ship skills will take quite a while
i would recommend you try an intaki/reborn and then the caldari/achura/inventors - make both and plug them both into evemon and see how they fare

The thing is... i don't want to play with caldari... I like the gallente for what they are and i want to do some RP with it. I read the backstroy and based upon that, as a gallente main char, my second char also has to be gallente or i wouldn't trust him :D

Gallente(race not bloodline) have another advantage-if you pick prospector they start with Mining V and Foreman IV plus refining V and several ore skills high enough that loss due to being unrecoverable isn't all that much. --- --- --- --- --- My views don't reflect those of my corporation, and definitely not those of my alliance as I don't have an alliance :p . |
