battlecruisers should fly through 2's. whats your setup? Are you hitting consistantly, for very little, or are you missing frequently? If you are missing, then try fitting a tracking enhancer, tracking computer with tracking script, or pulse lasers instead of beams. If you are hitting for very little, then train your damage skills higher (medium laser, bc, some gunnery support skills), fit some heat sinks to increase your rate of fire, and make sure you are using the right crystals for the job. Multifrequency is best, but only works at close ranges, while radio is worst, but good for long ranges.
Right click on your gun with crystal equipped, click attributes tab, then look for "optimal". Your target should be inside of this range, as shown on the overview. If they are further out, then you need to be up to the next longest crystal. You may want to buy a stack of each crystal, or every other crystal, fit them all in safe space, and write down what your optimal is for each one.

use pulse lasers, or make sure you have a webifier fitted if your using beams. ------

Edited by: Msobe on 09/04/2008 13:46:27 Hi suki!
Either its just you, or you struggle to hurt cruisers in lvl 2 missions. We can't say, because we don't know what you're flying, or rather, how its fitted.
My advice in Amarr overall is to buckle yourself in and train for several months before you expect to be good at anything. Your most important things (after learning skills) to train are your cap skills, ship skills (frig, cruiser, etc) and controlled bursts - once you get you cap use on your guns managable, you can start flying your ships without feeling like you've got someone following you around neuting your cap.
Yours,

gun skills, tank skills.
Try a target painter or more damage mods. Otherwise they might just be the tougher variants of cruiser. Miz Stelth Bomerz iz the ****nit.

I'm not sure about the target painter. he mentioned problems killing cruisers, which his medium lasers should hit fine, in terms of - i hope these terms are right - signature radius and signature resolution. You do make a good point about tougher variants - the mission you are on matters too.

also the mission i was when i was really struggling was called 'recon'

Recon is meant to blitz through in a fast ship, not stop and fight. Try fitting a cruiser for speed/tank, and don't bother shooting anything.
Your fit could use a little work too, but I have to run to a meeting. If no one responded when I get back, I'll comment. GL!

Lets fix your fitting, that's 3/4 of your problem.
High: You're mixing short and long range guns. Try and fit a whole rack of the same guns - all beams or all pulses. Right now you hit at all ranges poorly, rather than hitting well at one range and having to keep enemies within it.
Med: The shield extender is a wasted slot, find something else to put there. Don't mix armor and shield tanking.
Low: You only have one resistance module, so I imagine your armor melts like butter, even if you have a large amount of it. Get your resists up, and you'll have to repair less. Drop the plate, fit more resists - a plate is just a buffer, it doesn't help you sustain your tank. Small rep can probably go too, but it's not a terrible use of the slot.

As far as the other 1/4 of your problem, you're going to need to learn about tracking and optimal range. When you're missing a lot, (assuming you're still in optimal range) fly away from the enemies to minimize their transversal velocity. Your guns will hit much better. Also, learn to manage your capacitor. Its peak recharge is about 30%, and when it drops much lower than that, it practically quits charging back up.
What drones are you using?

ty for ur time
i use medium scout drones three at a time. wot do u recommend for the resists. and in place of shield extender, also if i go for one type of turret (heavy modal laser1) would it be wiser to change the crystals to suite the range and is too little guns be a bad thing?

Work on your drone skills, so you can use 5 at a time.
In place of the shield extender, you could use an afterburner, tracking computer, cap recharger, ect.
@ Crystals - yes, change them depending on the enemy range. Or, you can fly closer/farther to them, so you don't have to switch ammo.
@ guns - always use the max number of guns your ship can fit, and you nearly always want to fit the proper sized guns, though there are some exceptions.

Most of my comments reiterate what was said before.
1) Change your guns to all beams or all pulses. You probably want pulses for now, until you have better fitting, tracking, and cap skills. Remember, you need to be close with pulses. Right click, show info.
2) Drop the shield extender. Fit either a 4th cap recharger, or a tracking computer with an optimal script.
3) Drop the small armor repper, the adaptive nano plating 2, the rolled tungsten plates. Add 4 (you have an empty slot?) active hardeners, 2 for each of the two resists for the bad guys you're going to fight. The mission notes in your journal always say who the enemy is, and you can look up the damage type for that particular mission at eve-survival.org, or something like that.
Once you fit correctly, you should have no problem taking on recon level 2 with a harbinger.
Also, if you have a spare high slot left, toss in a tractor beam for faster looting.

Starter Harbinger fit
Step one - choose beams or pulse Step 2 - choose the right hardeners for the mission
Highs 7 lasers - choose beams or pulse, and fit the highest teir you can after fitting your tank
Mids 2-4 cap rechargers 0-1 tracking computers 0-1 afterburner
Lows 1-2 MAR (t2 perferred) 3-4 active hardeners (mission specific) 0-2 heat sinks 0-1 cap power relay
To start, try fitting 4 hardeners and 2 MAR's, 4 cap rechargers, and 7 guns. This should allow you to survive all your missions relatively easily, especially when you become able to permarun everything. As you get more used to the missions, start adding heat sinks and trying to fit bigger guns.
Another note - when you're starting, more than half your DPS ends up coming from your drones. As you get better gun skills, your guns will start outdamaging your drones. However, it is a very wise idea to train at least drones 5, scout drone operation to 3, and drone interfacing to lvl 3 to start with, because that will allow you to kill anything smaller than a battleship with just your drones.

Get EFT (Eve fitting tool)
While nothing beats real experience, theorizing and making your own fits and trying to optimize them in EFT can be a good experience and way to learn.
You also get your ships/fits resulting numbers out accurately, as opposed to having to guesstimate what your optimal is, how good your resists are, etc.
