Edited by: Isobe Mitsu on 10/04/2008 15:28:05 I'm having this problem running multiple instances of the Eve client. I found some work around like if I double click the icon 3 times and start all three instances at the exact same time they will all load (sometimes) and I can then log in and play without much performance issues as the computer is quite up to date but if I open one and wait until it's loaded then open another a problem arises often and most definitely on the third if the second loaded successfully, it causes me to force a restart because I just can't do anything.
I'll try and explain what happens, my mouse turns to the egg timer so I can't click anything the third client(sometimes second) doesn't load at all the screen freezes up and then goes all messed up jerky like jumping from the messed up screen to the normal screen and that continues until I force the restart. I can do things like hit the windows key start menu and Ctrl Alt Del task manager there is a delay in response time but I can do these things but I can't click anything so I can't do anything, and tabbing doesn't seem to work either. I tried logserver but it doesn't appear to have worked as I forced the restart, I did try Ctrl and S to save but don't think it worked.
So how do I use logserver if the problem is causing a crash/forced restart? I had a look in the Eve folder and sub folders and couldn't find a crash dump file or the logserver save file. I would appreciate any help in understanding what I can do to gather information about this problem.
Thanks.

Edited by: Isobe Mitsu on 10/04/2008 16:25:44 I just want to be able to play without the forced restarts all the time it's getting to be a real pain. Any advice would be great, like a recommended set up that can run multiple instances flawlessly or advice on how to gather info about this considering I can't do anything when the jerky messed up stuff happens.

Edited by: Mikal Zackfelt on 11/04/2008 03:43:26 Maybe look at a quad core CPU if you can swing it and maybe a P35 chipset or maybe the new higher end motherboards like the X38 or any of nvidia's chipsets (you might not like nvidia but it wouldn't hurt to look at them just to get an idea ).
Anyways, definately look at about a minimum of 2 gigs of ram as well (4 gigs if you can do it as well as a 64bit OS). That sounds like one of your hardware is overheating severely and causing the instability. If you are running a Prescott Pentium 4, those things run very very hot! Maybe look at the cooler to make sure there is no dust caught in it. If there is, you might want to take it off of the CPU and clean it off but I recommend before doing so is getting some thermal paste to reapply to the cooler after you clean if need be.
If it is something completely different then you might want to check your temperatures, you might be running a bit hot on some of the components unless you have a well ventilated case. An aftermarket CPU cooler and an even better ventilated case might help too. Another thing is that the graphics card might be on the way out too or is overheating. If your setup is working for you then I seen no reason to upgrade, just do some tweaking like add a new power supply, maybe a better cooler for the CPU and graphics card and a better case. Those little tweaks can make your current setup stretch even further.

Edited by: Isobe Mitsu on 12/04/2008 11:23:39 Actually I just found out this is happening on 2 seperate systems, the similarity between the systems are both are Pentium 4 one is 3ghz the other 3.2ghz both with HT and the graphics cards are both ATI Radeon one is X300/X550/X1050 Series 128mb the other is 9600 256mb (which apparently is part of the X1050 Series too hmmm) both are also running the OS XP Pro so I'm guessing it's one of these things could it quite possibly be an ATI driver? could it be a problem with the Pentium 4 HT?
I just found this
"CCP have provided a handy utility to check if your graphics card has Shader Model 3.0 (SM3). But what if you're not at the computer you play Eve on, or are intending to buy a new card and don't know which ones have SM3?
The following is a list of most popular graphics cards, with a note if they support SM3 or not."
"ATI Radeon R300 Series: SM3 Support - NO Radeon 9500, 9500 Pro, 9550, 9600, 9600 Pro, 9600 XT, 9700, 9700 Pro, 9800, 9800XT, X300, X550, X600."
In this thread
I don't know what this means but could this be the problem?

No, that just means that card doesn't support the Shader Model 3.0. Direct X 9.0c introduced support for Shader Model 3.0 and most modern cards support it now. The latest and greatest support Shader Model 4.0 which is offered in Direct X 10 and 10.1.
I don't see how that could be the issue if you are running the classic client. It could possibly be a problem with the graphics driver... Have you updated it recently? That might fix it. I know the last thing you wanna do is upgrade to a newer graphics card because of the possibility it could have the same issue.
I remember having that issue with my laptop before it went mental and died... I noticed it when I ran the SiSi client for a good while (but I think the damage was already done because of improper cooling... laptop + heat = not good ). Maybe try upgrading to the latest driver, that is all I can think of on top of what else I suggested. That way if you do have that issue crop up then you will know it isn't the hardware.
Hope this helps,

This is a recent issue on my computer too, I used to be able to run 3 eve instances fairly easily but now the second one locks up my computer.
...still havent figured out what might be causing it. |

Can I ask what Processor and Graphics Card you use? Is there any similarity with the ones I listed? |

After whole MONTH CCP DOES WHAT??? NOTHING!!!! We still have problem launching more clients. If you have login screen like this one (with heavy fps drop) only way to fix that is to close all clients. If you close the one client you just strated and start it again without closing others you will have to reboot hard way. LOGIN SCREEN BUGGED

Edited by: LittleTerror on 26/04/2008 04:14:42 The exact same thing is happening to me, when I goto run a third client my computer goes nuts with lots of disk thrashing and the mouse pointer cycles between the eggtimer and normal pointer. I can't do anything while this is happening and I'm forced to reboot the machine, befor the boost patch I could run 3 accounts perfectly using eve classic.
Intel dual core duo 2.4Ghz Nforce 680i SLI mobo (onboard sound disabled using XFI creative card if it matters) 2GB ram Geforce 7600 GT
Along with this problem I also get the white screen missing textures bug which causes my frame rate to fall right down to 11 fps oh and for some odd reason if I'm not doing anything with my second account. After about 5 - 10 minutes it disconnects, which I FEEL this is intentional! Since if I make sure I have some activity on that second account it will stay logged in just fine. Please remind me why I even bought and pay for that second account again? Ah yes it was a special offer some years ago explain the perks of having a second account so we could run 2 clients etc. Well its crap if it would even stay logged in for more than 10 minutes
