Why do people always have to ridicule anothers opinions by locking them into terms as 'carebear' and 'griefer'or 'pirate' ?
As far as i unedrstand the discussion goes something like this:
We have a highway that connects regional capitals to eachother, including the capitals of regions belonging to different empires.
These are the arguments brought to support these:
- they reduce long distance travel time to an acceptable number of jumps. - they make it possible for corporations to hold an maintain offices and markets in all regions of empire space if they so choose. - they make goods more easibly accessible to all. - they circumvented the former chokepoints that were regularly camped by pirates.
Now there have been voices all around, to remove the highways gates that connect the different empires, and repace that one jump trip from let's say Amarr to Yulai with 5-10 jumps of which one or two might pass 0.4 space (which is still just as safe as 0.6 if you only travel).
the arguments brought to support this removal and replacement of gates:
- It will support the forming of regional or national economies by making import en axprt of goodies from empires actually more difficult then in-empire trade. - It reinstates the feeling of vastness that the universe once had somewhat. - It makes RP more viable (?)
Now if i have understood correctly, the foremost fears of those against abolishment of the highways are:
-increase of travel time for a trip from amarr to new caldari to 50 jumps for example (greatly increased cross-empire travel time) - Gatecamps in the low sec systems between the empires (chokepoints) preventing inter-empire travel.
Now to my personal opinion (as a trader based in 0.0 space, thus belonging to beither 'camp').
I think there's an easy compromise possible and availiable. How about restructuring the highways to one that connects neigbouring constellations withing empires, but not regions in different ones.
To NOT increase travel time between the empires too much, one could put just a few jumps in between each two, with many possible points of crossing.
In order to still gain regional differences however, the whole length of the highways would have to be increased. Therefore the idea of making the hubs per constellation, not region.
I dont have whats needed to work it out graphicallt but you should get the idea.
And please stop aguing for the same of calling eachother names.
