In light of the new drones being implemented it would normally be cause for celebration. But hold on, celebration for just WHOM exactly? Certainly not the pilots who have devoted months of training towards the ability to utilize tech 2 drones.
Let us take a moment to observe the current state of affairs in the ammunition department. As it stands, T2 DPS ammo is rarely used because of it's overtly penalizing effects. T2 Range ammo is more used, but still conditional with the exception of certain ships (nanotards). So what's left you say?
Faction ammo.
Why? It's easy to get, requires no training and offers almost as much DPS as T2 DPS ammo; sans the horrid debilitation CCP saw fit to instill into the T2 DPS ammo.
Now some would say, "the price makes up for it though!". But does it really? Paying a premium more for ammo that gives the equivalent of weeks/months of training results is trivial. In essence, the benefits MUCH outweigh the negatives.
Now, this is where I'm supposed to cry and scream nerf faction ammo, but I won't. Instead, I'll take a swing at the dead horse and even more adamantly than before demand CCP reevaluate the current state of T2 ammunition. In addition, the advent of "faction" drones should most certainly be studied so as not to render training for Tech 2 Drones obsolete.

You should really look at the stats of faction drones before you post.

You have looked the faction drones? They aren't better than regular drones, they have a bit more hp and speed, but exactly the same damage, but splitted in 2 damage types. Not exactly an improvement.

As for faction drones... if someone launched them on me it would be tempting to just shoot the drones and warp off. Personally, when I launch my T2 drones I just see all that ISK floating around.

they were added in trinity, you need drone comps from drone regions--they'll formally appear as drone variations next patch

Latestpatch notes mentions faction drones are being added.
This suggests it is not hte same as the "augmented" donres people are auuming and flaming the op about.
(edit) Dude appears to be right they are the same thing. Indeed no need to worry they are an utter waste of time.
Imagins paying for a faction shield booster or armor hardner that gets blown up in 5 seconds by sentry guns.

Well aside the from the base DPS, they are significantly better than normal drones. They have a huge amount more hitpoints...
But hardly worth the pricetag. Last time I checked to see how much it would cost to make one, it was 7 mil for a Hammerhead II variant or something  That's just one drone! |

Your all missing the big advantage of Faction Drones.... They do TWO damage types.
That makes them far more capable than vanilla drones for PVE or PVP. Especially Ratting drone boats.

Good for PvP, but not really for PvE. Using a single damage type is generally better, unless you never dock to switch out drones or something. |

you dont train AMMO.. you train for the damn guns/launchers.
T2 ammo has its place... i use it alot... but i also carry faction.

Advantage? In PvE?
It is a big dis-advantage. In PvE you want something that hit the already know weakness of the target, not something that is wasted famage for the 50%.
In theory people using the faction drones are players that use ships with drone bonus and a serious drone bay.
If you consider the resistences of the strong NPC wasting half of your damage against a high resistence is way inefficient.
About the "added" thing, from what I read in the patch notes, the only difference is that the faction drones have been added to the variant list of the basic drones, making easier to search for them and seeing the drone stats, nothing more.
If CCP want to see them sold a little more it would be a good thing to make them sealable in market. Searching 24 different models of drones trough contracts to see if they is available in some corner of the universe is a great way to reduce buyers of an already uninteresting item.

No that's not what it says, if you check the patchnotes from Trinity it said faction drones were being added.
These patchnotes say "Faction drones have been added as variations of other drones "
Which means exactly what it says, they are beeing added to the variations tab of the standard drones, at the moment to check their attributes you have to do an auto link.
