alright, i expect lots of lolz and wtfs at this topic, but looking past its weaknesses (armor, speed, PG, CPU, well.... almost everything) how many people have actually considered the noobship as an actual combat ship.
for my example, i am using the velator (gallente noobship)
2 highs 1 med 1 low 10m3 drone bay (bandwith 10)
the ship has a 10% bonus to small hybrid damage per level. if a person were to fit 2 neutron blasters, then the damage would almost equal that of a taranis, the gallente interceptor, fitted with ion blasters.
coupled with t2 small drones, this little joke with an engine is actually a fairly decent frigate sized DPS boat.
i am not saying that these are fleet vessels, or even group pirating vessels. im just saying that when you look past the rather lousy exterior, these free ships might actually be useful
(btw, its late at night for me, and i cant see straight. if you need any more reason why i posted this, PLEASE ask.) Proud to be a skunk |

FYI the Velator doesn't even get close to touching Taranis DPS. |

you can't.... even though it has rig slots, you don't have enough (forgot the name) but you can't cause of it (its earlier, i am tired!)
I fit mine with 2x 75t2 rails, web and 2xwarriors, put a DC II on as well... wins everytime in noob ship on noob ship. keep range and use your 30+k lock range to get your drones on him... gets too close, web him :P
Obviously you run a no warp out rule in noob fights!

apologies, i thought that the velators bonus was 10%, but i see now its only 5%.
therefore, yes, it doesnt do nearly as much as a ranis.

Obviously nub ships are not real fighting ships but then if you are killing nubs in belts in low sec who needs a real ship? My favourite is the 200mm plate AC Velator. The AC's allow for the larger plate plus you can run your warp scrambler for long enough to ransom the pod.
The Velator is far and away the best nub ship due to being able to field 2 light drones.
Biggest ship I've solo'd in a nub ship is a destroyer but one day I'll get a cruiser.

I remember reading in someones post that Rookie ships have been seeing use in some fleet engagements. As I recal I think BOB may have been doing this. Again I'm not certain about that.
I recall that fighters were assigned to these ships, but there was another use that I can't remember now for these ships in the fleet. Bad memory.
It was cool though reading about a truely effective Ibis of Doom.
I wish I could find that post again. Recruitment Thread EKT Website |

Edited by: Inertial on 11/04/2008 07:55:19 The Velator deservses respect. I get 163 DPS with 2 Ion Blaster IIs with Dread Gurista ammo a Cormack Modyfied Magnetic Field Stabilser and two Hobgoblin IIs. That is actually comparable with my Enyo .
EDIT: This is also with a +5% damage implant and a +7% rate of fire implant. I am sure there is more things you can do to boost damage as well.

f you fit your noobship with officer mods, mabye I should keep an eye on you. And it DEFINITLY wasn't bob who used noobship in fleets, however during the QY6 recapture the goons brought an evac fleet of shuttles and noonships so you might of been thinking of that Proud to be a skunk |

Something like 20 months ago, I saw a video of GoonFleet doing a "Velator Swarm" ... those 100+ noobships with T1 drones and fittings tore down a lot of things, including a passive tanked missile Ferox (that was the best passive tank of the time, before the Drake was made), a Dominix, and a smattering of cruisers/frigates/other ships.
Don't diss the noobships. In the hands of a veteran, they pack a surprising punch. <~ sig starts here
