Originally by: Astria Tiphareth he wasn't talking about blowing up ships, he mentioned griefing specifically (which as it happens, is listed by CCP as something they disagree with and have a proper definition of), killing players to remove all skillpoints, and other such things. I'd put those squarely under the 'I wish to really cause harm' list.
His use of the word "griefing" was general and the his description is not something that CCP has any definition for, yet, as the mechanics for what he describes does not yet exist. It's all speculation. You may slot it as "intentional harm", where others may consider it no different than gate camping and slaughtering haulers. Until the mechanics are in place and CCP defines the rules, nobody can say if it is griefing or not.
Quote: If you don't agree, feel free to delete your char and start skill training again, because clearly you feel that's appropriate.
non-sequitur
Quote: Also if you look carefully, you'll note I also included for the possibility he was making a joke
It has not been clarified whether or not he was joking. So you seem to be saying that if he's not joking, you stand by your real-life correlation. This is problematic.
Quote: I don't take EVE that seriously. Kindly post my comment in full context please, not the bit you take exception to out of context.
Your statement was not taken out of context and stands on its own. You further clarify above that you allowed for the possibility of a joke, however you say nothing of retracting your statement if the poster was not joking. It is this wild tendency to correlate real life to game life that I take exception to.
Quote: As for the psychiatric care bit, if you wish me to avoid making comparisons between an in-game persona and a real life persona, I'd suggest you do the same to avoid appearing a hypocrite.
I actually don't wish you to do anything. Your post was just another example of when people seem to believe there is a significant relationship between in-game actions and a person's real life personality. Also, I am not being a hypocrite because your post was made as a real life expression of your real life feelings, not as a character playing a game.
As for seeking psychiatric care, that is only a decision that you can make for yourself. I don't think that drawing unrealistic correlations is necessarily cause for alarm, but if you go so far as to believe the game is having a negative impact on your life, the perspective available from a mental health care professional may be benificial. ---- I am Super Cool
