Okay I've searched the last ten pages of threads and have not found anything about how optimal range and accuracy fall off work. I'm guessing that if optimal range of a 720 Howitzer is 21,000m and falloff is 30000m, then that means the weapon is equally effetive at 21,001 through 49,999. This doesn't make sense. My second guess is that maximum damage efficiency is at 21k and you start losing effectiveness to hit beyond 30k. This theory loses ground when you look at the 250 Railgun which has an optimal of 24k and a falloff of 12k so that means your optimal damgage range if beyond you accuracy range. Anyone have a definitive answer on this one?

thanks, so it is true that the max damage range for a railgun is beyond its maximum range effectiveness

From range 0 to Optimal, you'll do max damage and hit most of the time.
From Optimal to Falloff, you'll do less damage and hit less often the farter from optimal you get.
Max useable range is Optimal + Falloff

Seems easy enough... But how do you explain "Optimal to falloff" when falloff is lower than optimal ? Check any laser and you'll what I mean. For example :
Heavy Beam Laser I
Optimal : 20000 m
Falloff : 8000 m
Is falloff only for determining max range that you can hit anything and do damage at all or ?

It means that the laser can hit up to 28,000meters, but the farther the laser shoots past 20,000 the less dmg it'll do. At 28,000 you're barely effective.

he ment "optimal" to "optimal + falloff".
so a gun with 20k optimal and 5k faloff
does optimal damage in the 0km to 20 km range
from 20km to 25km it gets hits but not so good and it gets worst the farther out
and beyond 25km you will get no hits at all (usally i get some but thats pure luck).
this is without regarding the tracking of the gun
