and how can they detect this ?
I mean I can either kill the client or shut down the connection to TQ via firewall, both will initiate an emergency warp ... and there is no way for either the client or server to discover this ...
let's say the current mechanic is equaly unfair to all, your proposal could be abused ... |

and in which way can it be abused?
All that could happen, is that the drones are not dead... aka 5 * 800k isk saved in my cause

It's not just drones that are affected by this. If you are mission running with someone else and warp out, the rats move to the next object aggressing them, which in that case would be your friend. Or your drones.
It's the nature of the combat mechanics.

NPCs should scoop up the drones instead of shooting them and release them with the wreck again. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

This is a good idea that avoids asking for your drones to teleport to your dronebay when you warp. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Thats actually a really good idea. It would make it so those who are overpowered by the encounter can't get them back easy, and those who just had their connection drop the chance to get them back.
I hate losing stuff to my ISP.

I would like to see the drones warp out and apear to be sitting next to the ship when the player logs back in, right there in the middle of nowhere.
Or they could just disapear, when a disconect has been detected, and then reappear when you warp back in.
Or the drones could at least automatically reestablish communication with their commanding ship when it reappears after disconect. That would be fair i think. I hate watching my drones being torn to shreds from 25km away.

Fighters warp. Drones can't. Doesn't work with the backstory

I know drones don't warp, but a disconect isn't exactly a storyline thing either.
But I agree it's a hard case. Reestablishing conection with your drones after disconect however could be very possible though.

Having the NPCs ignore or scoop up drones should work well for PvE, but if you have a disconnect when your in PvP then your drones can still be stolen/destroyed. Having the drones vanish would mean people can risk sending their drones some distance away, because they can manually disconnect if those drones come under fire.
What about having the log out warp sequence changed to the following:
- Issue recall drones command (warp capable fighters can be excluded) - Align for warp - Wait for drones to return or get destroyed - Begin warp
This would ensure you keep your drones if your connection fails, and it would also mean that if your drones are too far away you will take longer to escape if you hit ctrl-q (I'm not sure if anyone will be effected by this last part).
