You're not familiar with the academic community, I trust. Among us it's customary to provide a precis, or a summary of what will be argued discussed. It is a short summation that outlines the relevant points of the argument.
So it is not necessarily rude to ask for a summary of a long post. It can be, of course, but it is not inherently so.

It's polar opposite is the oft underused "ts;rt". That is, "too short; read thoroughly". ------
