Hi everyone!
Here we are again, another patch for increased stability and bug fixes. Looking at the previous post patch discussion thread, it seems that most people are happy with the stability, but frequent graphics glitches seems to be a problem. I would like to point out that using the Bug report system is the best way to help out finding issues with the client and fixing them. - I would like to gather your post-patch Linux client experience in this thread.
As usual, I would still like to know about the client stability. But in this thread please also make a small list, 3, 5 or 7 points of what you believe are still the top (X) issues in the Linux client client.
With that said, I hope you enjoy the patch!
- If you are still having problems with corrupted rendering or with crashes try clearing your cache by doing the following:
Delete all files and folder in: .cedega/EVE\ Online/c_drive/Documents\ and\ Settings/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/
1. Open .Cedega 2. Open EVE Online 3. Open c_drive 4. Open Documents and Settings 5. Open Local Settings 6. Open Application Data 7. Open CCP 8. Open EVE 9. Delete the folders called "Cache" "Settings" and "c_programfiles_ccp_eve_tranquility" 10. Restart the client
Note that doing this will delete your ingame settings such as Bookmark folders, Overview settings, color settings etc.

Edited by: Doublewhopper on 15/04/2008 15:52:03 The patch downloads, put the patching doesn't begin. After the download, eve just closes.
This repeats on 2 computers.
What should i do now?
Running on Opensuse 10.3

Edited by: Doublewhopper on 15/04/2008 15:55:48 After restarting eve it seems to patch now.
It loads the patch another time to 16MB and then says verification failed.
The download after this then works. (repeated on 2 computers...very strange)

Edited by: Capt Slow on 16/04/2008 09:24:22 After the update the background in space is just white - objects are normally textured. I deleted the cache but this didn't help. Apart from some random crashes in missions I had no problems with Eve on this system before the patch.

Using Fedora Core 8 up until this patch has been great. I couldn't get widescreen to work but that's another story.
After this patch it asked me for the EULA, I clicked accept, and now I get a black screen every time I launch followed by a total crash that leads me to a new KDE login screen (not a reboot). I tried using the reinstall option, but no change so far.
I can try clearing cache tonight, but wanted to know if anyone else has seen this and figured it out.

Same here, I just see a black window after starting the client. I can press ESC or CTRL-Q and would get the options menu / "Are you sure to quit?" dialog box but I am unable to select any options. Only way to quit the client is closing the window.

I am getting major texture corruption on all objects, interior of station, exterior of station, jump gates, ships... I can even see the "corners" of the bounding box of the system I am in. This sometimes did not happen right away but seems to be a over time corruption of the textures by the rendering engine. Clearing cache did not help in any way (just got rid of all my settings). As a fix I just switched over to wine using the premium content. I get about the same FPS (slightly higher to tell you the truth) on my machine and none of these graphical glitches when using wine (plus better graphics ). Win for me I guess, but definitely a loss for Transgaming/Cedega. Just as a note: I also get no corruption when using wine and classic content. This is definitely a problem with cedega portion of the patch (not the CCP part IMO).

If you get a blackscreen, but with the eve-cursor and the escape menu works, then just click around a few times on the blackscreen until the light goes on...it does this on one of my machines, running on a geforce 5900 with opensuse 10.3

There are some "prismatic reflections" on all objects in space now. Still some issues with the wall textures in minmatar stations. And the texture problems in the fitting menu are back.
I think you better pay some wine devs to optimize wine for you. Transgaming does a bad job here, and not only here. I pay for cedega, but there was no progress for half a year. The only thing that changed is that some games that worked before no longer work now. But Transgamin still says they are "supported".

Edited by: Belidonna on 17/04/2008 19:23:22 Major graphics issues here. Did a clean reinstall and my client seems to want to hang up more now than before. It like to hang at the logging in screen at about 40%. I have to restart X to get that display back. Textures have either rainbows in them, or what looks like lots of numbers and letters. Dont know about sound, i have to disable it to have my clients all run on the same box.
Top Issues:
1. Sound - multi clients wont work and hang eachother / wont start or restart properly if another is open / wont play with other aps like team speak 2. Stability - mostly on logging in and logging out is where I have issues. If the client is able to login it will run for hours. 3. Graphics - rainbows and other texture oddness. doesn't keep me from being able to play but its annoying.
Also, deleting all my bookmark folders and settings is not a solution to a problem, that s a problem itself. |

Bug reported the graphics problems. Temp fix is to escape menu and switch from 24bit to 24bit 8bit alpha, or from 8bit to the 24bit choice. This works for awhile, and the prism problems return.
Biggest problem here is the connecting. Starting client works fine, but the client stays on "connection status" for up to 5 minutes prior to "finding" tranquility. The problem occurs under wine as well, so may be something specific to linux and the client. (Under xp this isn't an issue.)
bullet points for linux client:
1. Premium gfx. --this was promised q1 for "official client" and that deadline has come and gone. (Wine/crossover games + premium works.) 2. fps increase. Still 20-40% below native capability causes problems around POS structures as well as fleet actions. 3. IGB issues. Still long connect times for IGB compared to native performance or wine/crossover. The IGB can delay up to 3 minutes loading anything. 4. Multiple client installation and usage. Installing multiple clients is still fairly tricky and usage is a pita at times (memory usage/gfx card tweaking/sound/etc.)

You need to check your network-settings in Linux. I have and never has had any problem with connecting to the EVE server.. Works both in the offical cedega-install and wine (0.9.56 is installed on my computer at the moment).
Since I installed EVE (Premium Client is much better even though the premium content is disabled) thru Wine a couple of days ago the game runs much, much smoother (about 50-70% better FPS for me), no crashes and no graphic issues. The sound hangs sometimes but that is solved by turning on/off audio hardware acceleration (no restart needed).

Try disabling hardware acceleration on your sound card if you haven't done that already.

Using the official client I have mangled textures that make all ships and stations look muddy. I also have portrait corruption on all portraits that aren't already in my cache.

My Fedora 8 client is still dead (see above) :(
I even reformatted the entire system with a new install and got it updated. I just get a black screen then it kills the entire window manager and goes back to a login screen for the init5 login.
Anybody else getting this or figured it out? It worked great before the update.

My new Install of ubunto 8.04. downloaded and installed eve client, everything works fine UNTIL I click the character to log in. Once the login reaches 99% all the text flips upside down and mirrors and the client hangs, then CTD. system info as follows...
cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ cpu_ghz: 1.99 memory: 1519 videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation videocard_type: GeForce 7300 GT/AGP/SSE/3DNOW! videocard_ram: 512 agp_aperture_size: 92 videocard_driver_version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 169.12 soundcard: VIA 8237 with ALC655 at 0xbc00, irq 1 soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.15 machine_bitness: 32 kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic x_version: distro: Debian lenny/sid GUI version: eve-000066
any idea what I can do to fix this issue? I'm relatively new to linux, and totally new to Ubunto.
