Okey first things first in Eve you can only do one thing 23/7. |

CCP's dictionary defines "Carebear Someone who doesn't care for Player versus Player Combat"
However, it says "doesn't care" not "doesn't do". So it seems to me that this title fits most everyone in highsec. |

i think the definition of carebear isn't as accurate as it used to be any more, as it's got that insulting undertone to it.
i would personally use the word to describe anyone who always chooses safety over fun/risk/pvp/whatever else.
So, a mission farmer (and i mean FARMER), high sec miners (i just hate to see exhumers wasted for veldspar. not that i care about mining, but they're designed to survive in 0.0!)
But also I could easily apply the same sticker to any self proclaimed 'piwate' who spends all his time picking only fights, which outcome he can predict with 95% probability him being on top.
In the end of the day, there is no 'safe' activity in EVE anymore. Whether you're a mission runner, high-sec miner, piwate, or anything else, there is always a chance that your ship will go *POP*

I call them pie-bears. They are apt to whine bitter tears in this forum when the outcome isn't exactly what you have described above. |

Originally by: Tzar'rim A carebear is someone who points at others for the mistakes he makes himself while being unable or unwilling to learn and adapt. So no, you're not a carebear. Being a carebear is a state of mind.
That has nothing to do with one's personal ruleset or ideas you keep to while playing EVE.
not true a carebear is anyone that doesn't want to engage in player vs player combat encounters. doesn't matter what he does be it mining, manufacturing, trading, or NPC/mission killings.....
It just so happens 9/10 of them ***** about being killed or anything that makes what they are doing harder

Its clear most people on Eve have no clue what a carebear is anymore. Being from older MMO's such as ultimaonline and a few others i can tell you how the term Carebear was orginated. Pretty much MMO's was always hardcore "you die you lose something" UO, diabloII hardcore blah blah......then WoW came out and (i beta tested wow) and people was asking if wow would have a hardcore server (where u lose ur ****) Most of the players said NO NO NO, so we called them carebears. I know it wasnt just wow its many other mmos carebears are from but its been there long before Eve......eve players just have no clue how to use it (ive been playing eve since 05) Carebear = player who *****es and complains when they lose, they try to get the GM's to make the game less "harsh" they try to avoid PvP or they try to cry to a GM when things don't go there way. Honestly MOST people who play eve ARE NOT carebears.....because they are well aware of the risks so they continue to play. Usually if u want to find a real carebear......go play the other ****ty MMO's on the market. Most eve players are not carebear (accept the ones that never leave empire space) So that is what a carebear is......**** i had a 5 newb pirates gate camping call me a carebear because i cloaked ??? Ya i cloaked and got away so now im a carebear. I love the Eve community but they seriously have lost the definition of carebear. Thanks ;)
P.S. If you are willing to play this game and not petition anytime u lose stuff you are okay in my book. |

Yes. You may not care, but you are a Bear.
Bear = Anyone who engages in industrial activity or any non PvP activity, really, as the primary means of gaining isk. Mining, trading, hauling for hire, mission running, manufacturing, invention, etc. A Bear may engage in PvP activity, but will not go pirate. Many pirates seem to expand the definition to include anyone who does not engage in acts of piracy and/or thinks piracy is wrong. A Bear has a strong moral compass and a conscience.
Pirate = Those who don't have the patience, discipline or inclination to make isk by doing anything other than piracy. Though they do sometimes fall back on mission running, etc to boost their income. Alternatively, they sometimes just like to blow up people who haven't got a chance of effectively fighting back. Additionally, pirates have a greater love for seeing their name in local. They particularly like it when people whine about their activities, i.e. "You blew up my ship you @#@#$#@" Such whining makes them feel less impotent in their day to day real life. This is probably the result of a self worth issue. Mommy didn't breast feed long enough, Daddy didn't approve of their achievements, etc. Perhaps they were victims of a sexual attack or child abuse. You get the idea. Pirates have an adjustable moral compass and a convenient conscience, both of which are easily adjusted by self deluding rationals.
Whiners = Anyone who complains when they get the crud blown out of them, their friends or their stuff. Whiners are found in both Pirates and Bears. I've seen whining and smack from both in channels. The really interesting thing about whiners is most of them seem to truly think they're achieving something other than delighting the person they're complaining about.
Note: While all whines are complaints, not all complaints are whines.
Hope this helps.

I don't see the word bear anywhere in your name. And you need 6.5 sec status to quality.

Don't disrespect the veldspar ;) I spend a lot of time mining that even in 0.0.
Anyways... to the op. Find a corp and you'll be happier. It's honorable to only kill people who have wronged you, and I support that. In a corp you will have the chance to kill people who have wronged your friends, and their friends. You'll also fine mining more rewarding when you're doing it for a cause rather than just profit.

Thank you for all the responses.
I still don't know if I'm a carebear or not, mostly because your points of view are so different.
Anyway... if carebear = whinner, then I'm not. If carebear = player who does not fight unprovoked, then I am.
I don't look for fights, but I don't avoid them either.
And to clarify... I was not looking for an argument with this tread. I've been called "carebear" by one of the can flippers after I destroyed his ship, and I was curious if he was right or not. I suppose was just a random insult from a frustrated wannabe-outlaw.

That's like someone calling you a derogative homosexual after he finds out you just slept with his girlfriend. It doesn't mean anything about you, just means he's a bitter ****. Both sides, industrial and pvp, have stand up dudes and whiners. You seem like a stand up dude. He seems like a whiner.
