I'm looking for a run-down of excellent (but not perfect) support skills to solo-mine in Alliance 0.0 space?
I'm talking in terms of 2 areas: 0.0 rat survivability and mining yield.
A Hulk trained to LVL 5 is sitting in the Hangar. However, I'm natur allynot keen to road-test its awesomeness without a good set of support skills.
The complete miners guide is wonderful, but perhaps a little too complete for me! :-)

Well, all you really need to get started is a tank (and drones). The mining yield can be improved at your own leisurely pace.
The famous tank for a Hulk is simple yet expensive: Gistii-A small shield booster, one eutectic cap recharger, and two rat-specific shield hardeners.
For the aforementioned tank, some relevant skills off the top of my head include Electronics V, Energy Systems Operation V, and Tactical Shield Manipulation IV for tech-2 hardeners if you want them.
You can choose to compromise on the tank. It's up to you whether you want to go all-out, or just most of the way towards the optimum tank.
As for drones, I suppose five tech-2 medium scout drones dealing rat-specific damage is typical.
Once you can handle the rats, it is simply a matter of fitting the best mining equipment you can without compromising the tank. Fitting skills definitely come in to play here.
Mining in fleets is also much more efficient than mining solo, since you can get bonuses and stuff. It's nice to have at least one person with Mining Foreman V. A Rorqual or other nifty gadgets are even better. ---

Edited by: gramb0 on 15/04/2008 23:24:55 ok you'll be shield tanking so your hulk so what you'll want is all the compensations to IV atleast and everything else to IV or V, T2 med drones atleast, and you'll also need basic rig skills for shield tanking resis.
hope that helps good luck!

What is up with recommending compensation skills for a Hulk?
Basically you want both cap skills and your Electronics maxed. This will make it easiest to fit everything CPU wise, and keep your lasers and active tank going at once.
Basically you want to run with a shield booster (Gistii A-Type Smalls are beautiful beyond words if you can afford one), and 2 NPC specific hardners. <- This is the reason you don't need compensation skills, you will be running hardners (They arn't that cap intensive, and with faction ones you can fit 2 even with Mining upgrades), and compensation only boosts resistance while the harder is offline.
Number one recommendation (Although you probably know it), make sure to avoid PvP at all costs, even with an uber tank on the hulk a BC will rip through you. And because of this, watch out for Frig spawns, or at least make sure you can quickly pop the frigs with drones. Since having an NPC hold you still while the wandering enemy finds you sucks

As far as I know, the shield compensations don't have any impact when the shield mods are activated. The only time they help is if they aren't active, which I'm pretty sure should never be the case with a Hulk... right? |
