When the game has more than 6.5k people, the forums go down. When the game lags to death and the techs reboots the servers, the forums go down.
Why the hell then you say its in Iceland and NOT CONNECTED!!! jeez, we aren't that stupid. Separate FOR real and for ONCE this nonsence crap.
I want to use the forums when it lags to death. I wanna use forums when there's loads of people in space... what the hell!
Thanks :) --------------------------

Maybe it's really just me, but was this patch announced before ? ...
Some of my mates where really ****ed off; if they knew it was patch time they would have put on a long training time skill.
Maybe I missed it, but this patch came as a surprise to me as well... Bad, bad communication again CCP ?
Anyway, I've been looking at this screen (Click me) long enough (tried to log in 3 times) . I'll try Eve again tomorrow

She does have a somewhat valid point (if and only if the webserver and game servers are running off the same connection and cluster).
Running webservers and game servers together off the same connection hogs bandwidth insanely. I've learned this through expericence when running gameservers alongside a few medium-traffic sites. The game server lags to hell, and the websites aren't much better.
Separating the physical connection would improve functionality for both.

Well yeah, that would lighten the load so a separated forum would be easier, I don't see your point at this time of day.
Anyway, patch days always suck and EVE is gonna kick ass with the new hardware and highway changes.

eve portal is a good forumfor when this ones down. these forums are linked to character an account information seperating them may be harder than you think and yes enb had their forums integrated as well and di sometimes have problems when the servers were doing the same, until they moved them to smeone elses site

maybe place the webserver on a seperate server and use a backup of the user account and character pics done at every downtime maybe to the webserver?

50k people in EnB?? Exactly when did that game ever have that kind of subscribers and there isn't a snow ball chance in *^&% that they could of all gotten on at the sametime to either the game servers or the forums. If... for even a second EnB had that many subscribers it would still be running and more importantly you'd all still be trying to squeeze into a 3x5 box in antares arguing about who shot the uber mob first. Or trying to fit 400 noobs around the tada-o gate trying to ninja loot a archos, reaver, or bite or other tada-o loot. In short that game had zero content and zero ability to keep high level players well spread out. Which all leads to extreme lag.. or as we called it "The Beast" oh I played on Orion as well. Most of time I felt I was fighting "The Beast" more than any mobs. --------------------------------------------------- Mining my way across eve; 1 roid at a time! |

It's kind of a domino effect. You'll notice that whenever the game server goes down, the first place people go is the forum here. When everyone logs onto the forum it get's overloaded too. Then a bunch go over to Eve-I.com and it ends up have server problems too.
It's like a building catching fire and everyone try to run for the same door all at the same time. If people would run out multiple doors it would save them all. The masses go around crashing each of the others when one is down.
Then again, CCP might want to shut it down so that people don't whine and moan endlessly dragging down the rest of the community.

well, of course i'v got nothing against patch days :)
It's awsome that we have this hardware upgrade and it's more than welcome. Yes I have chosen a skill, 5 days left to train it. I'm ain't that dumb. But the forums should be up for us to talk about stuff and exchange ideas. Shouldn't be down...
Just some frustration up :P --------------------------

There are some cross-overs between the game server and the forums, for instance those nifty pictures above your name when you post here. There are also a few other locations where the in-game information is accessed and borrowed by the web site.
The Dev and Web Teams are aware of the issue and have some solutions in mind. Part of the solution is the hardware upgrades that are occuring in the very near future. There are also other changes that are going to be made in the future, but they are a bit lower on the priority chart than things like lag, server stability, and other major issues.

Edited by: Sochin on 22/04/2004 06:30:52 What was the first thing you did when EVE started lagging out? Ran to the forums. Imagine what happens when 5000 people all try to access a site as complex as eve-online.com at once. The site isnt equipped to deal with that sort of load, because normally only a small fraction of that number is on the site at any given time.
It would be extremely expensive to purchase the bandwidth and servers required to allow this site to have thousands of simultanious visitors, and its not cost effective because all that extra serving power would go to waste 99% of the time.
I don't think its feasible for CCP to simply purchase extra bandwidth for patch days, seeing as the server hardware itself probably isnt capable of dealing with the massive number of SQL queries and serverside scripting needed to let the forums function properly with 5-10 thousand visitors.

ummm, you do know that there are little patch files so you don't download the full client every time there is a version upgrade?
like this most recent patch was only 1.7mb to upgrade from the previous version....DOH! indeed
