I just started learning the trading game 2 days ago. I havent been keeping really good track of my orders, as I thought I was well and clear into profit, always making at least 10-30% on my orders. But today I ran the numbers, only to find that I was 10m in the hole.
Baffled, I went over my wallet transactions and found several mysterious broker fees for several million each. Being a new/small time trader, I never had any orders that would be large enough to warrent such high broker fees.
Then it hit me. Typos are expensive.
I remembered I had made a few typos, where I left out the decimal place, or inserted 2-3 digits thinking I was overwriting highlighted text.
At the time I thought nothing of it; other than it being an inconveinience to have to wait 5 minutes to fix the error. Needless to say, I'll be much more careful from now on

I must admit I made the same mistake at least once. Stupid decimal point. Ever wonder how something like a 400k high on trit can happen? yea, EVE doesn't ask if you *really* want to buy at this price :)

I once petitioned a GM because the sell price available in station wasn't showing up when I tried to sell my precious cargo hold of goodies. I forgot to check that the "minimum volume" was 10x what I had on hand so I was only getting the next best price.
Petition removed in shame.

Was playing with trit orders in Jita last night, I made 5 Mill on 10Mill in just over an hour but then lost 3mill in a typo, i sold at a higher price than i was buying while thinking about the fluctuations in buy orders, it was moving so fast. Cant wait to get my skills higher to limit broker fees etc.
Wont make that mistake again, i hope.

In all my life in Eve, I've made a modification typo just twice. And lost 600m to one and 3b to the other typo. I just don't get it, why CCP won't code a confirmation box to appear, when you're trying to modify your order to a price higher than the regional average (they did add confirmation box for below regional average, though).
I doubt you'll get far, if you've made that many typos in just 2 days and didn't even notice them!? - Mr C |

Mr McCargo, they already added it in previous patch.
And yes I lost a lot of ISK to order modification dialog too.

Multiple billions? That would mean that you've screwed up entering more than a trillion ISK in sell orders. I guess a ~10B sell order plus 2 extra zeros would do it....

Accidentally buying 600mil trit at 400 would be multiple billions lost. |

I've been trading for about a week now and gone from about 75k to having around 50m worth of stuff moving, and to date I haven't made any major typos, more often I read the price list wrong and list my items above the lowest sell, or below the highest buy, and have to wait 5mins to correct

Both times where I made a typo (once with price and once with quantity) I was able to correct the mistake within 5 minutes with no harm done (except a few million in taxes). I try to keep things pretty diversified so that I don't have more than a few hundred million in a single item, but I know one of these days I'm going to make a mistake and someone will catch it and punish me for it, haha.

Fools... in all my Eve time I never made a typo.
I setup trades at least 10 times a day with numbers like 1999999. I type these without thinking about it, always on the number. But I always check afterwards with TAB just in case. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Good for you, however 10 times a day is low number. Many traders make/update 100+ orders per day.

EVE is ... always a learning experience.
When I first signed up to EVE (not with this character) I killed a Shadow Serpentis frigate in high security space, in my first week of play. I looted a high grade Snake implant from it. Really, really lucky for me. I don't recall the precise type and I wasn't really aware at all of how the market system worked.
So I sold it for the highest buy price in the area, via right click and sell. It was about ten million ISK. I was happy I remember, because it paid for my next two ships, a destroyer and a cruiser, plus fittings and change to spare. A week later I was slightly more savvy and more a man of the world, so looked up the going rate for that implant. It was well in excess of a hundred million ISK.
I was ... shall we say "disappointed".

Another fun one is accidently setting a region buy order when you meant to pay a premium for it to be delivered to a station... I've got Pyerite all over a region now... ç¦ |

Did the exact same thing once. My stack was 8 instead of 12, though. Wallet blinked almost immediately and I couldn't understand where my order went until I went in transactions...
