I had to update my system yesterday after my XP instillation was corrupted and my disk is scratched and no longer worked. went out and bought vista basic and started fresh. I have all updates including SP1 installed. I have the latest Creative and Nvidia drivers but the game keeps locking up after being in game only a minute or 2. anyone else have this issue and got it resolved?
Eve Premium graphics
QX6700 @ 3.2GHz
4Gb 1066MHz Corsair Dominator ram
EVGA 780i
2 x 8800 GTX (not in SLI atm) w/ 174.74 drivers
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
2 x 500 Gb HDD's

turn off aero, turn off UAC
install all windows updates and SP1
delete your drivers
clean all nvidia stuff with Driver Cleaner
reinstall drivers
and prey SP1 fixxed the problems that vista has for you because it doenst always work, just look @nvidia/ati forums and u will find nice whining threads with 100k replies :)

i have the same issues with 2 x GTX (in SLi) , 680i, 4Gb Dominator and an XFi.

Might I point you to this thread?
Less for the fix, but more for the spec, I have a damned similar setup to yourself and dont have any issues. Whats play like with other game titles? are you just getting problems with Eve?

Other games run just fine for me, Crysis never drops below 30fps.
All hardware will soak / stress test without any issues.
funny thing is, only seems to happen to me 99% in stations whilst shopping. hasn't (yet - touch wood) happened on a mission or in a firefight.
but i'm loath to take teh risk.
seems alot of people are having similar issues.

Aero isn't part of Vista Basic, UAC has no effect on my playing of Eve...
what isn't made clear is whether this is a 32-bit version or 64-bit...
Also unclear is what caused the XP install to become unstable - could be the same problem causing different symptoms (try cleaning the dust out of the PC & making sure everything is plugged in nice and tight).
