This is a sad day for myself and the UMCON directorship, and the hardest announcement I've ever had to make. The amount of ways around this I have considered and explored in my mind are almost endless, but after much careful consideration and discussion with the other members of the UMCON leadership, we have decided that reality is in the end, inescapable, and that this truly is unavoidable.
When UC was formed some time ago it started its life as a small, focused and manageable corp, made up of a group of like-minded friends most of whom had flown together in the past. Umbra never really *****ed the whip at its members and everyone was allowed to do their own thing, for the most part at least.
The corp has changed dramatically since then with a member count of over 230. However, the control and management of the corp has not kept pace with the expansion in numbers. It is no longer possible to manage UMCON on the same basis. Being the largest corp in a major alliance, there is a requirement to participate and a need for better control.
This brings us to the crux of the matter. The existing directors within Umbra are unable to effect the appropriate control over a corp of this number and as such we have discussed the best way forward for both Umbra and the alliance within the leadership structure of the corp. It has been determined that all Umbra pilots will be asked to find an alternate corp within IAC and to post applications to the corp of their choosing.
You may ask, why don't we fix this? Why donĘt we recruit new directors and implement the required systems and controls within Umbra? The truth of the matter is that the existing directors are facing complete burnout. The burden of running a corp of this size with so few directors has taken its toll and most wish to break away from this responsibility. Those who donĘt, also donĘt wish to run the corp without the support of those choosing to step down.
Issues of trust have also been raised within the corp, and we all know who to thank for their contributions there. This has affected several of the directors quite severely. Personal trust was broken by those with whom we had flown, and led UMCON with, for several years, some since its conception.
With the commitments that we each have out of game, there is no fun in what amounts to having a virtual job. We need to get the fun back or walk away from eve altogether. It is our intention to seek new challenges in new environments and locations, however we (the leadership) will remain blue to IAC and intend to assist in defending Catch, which we still consider to be our home.
In effect, Umbra Congregatio will close its doors in a few weeks from now. We wish IAC to remain strong and urge our members to find an alternative home within the alliance.

Actually, no-one in UMCON is a member of the IAC leadership, and we aren't the exec corp. So this is purely an UMCON leadership issue, not an IAC one. But thanks for the kinds words anyway :) ----------------------------------------

While we've never been on the same side of the virtual battlefield, it is always sad to see a corp suffer like this. While we wish for the demise of IAC from time to time, nobody wishes this kind of situation upon you. Well ok we do, but when it happens it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.
At the end of the day, this is an internet spaceships game and the people behind the monitors pressing the buttons to direct their pixels are more often than not decent folk.
Good luck restructuring.

As one of the oldest members and directors of Umbra Congregatio i thought i would say something and its hard to leave umcon behind it has been my home and life for 99% of my eve life and it is a sad day to see it come to an end.
Its been a pleasure flying with all of you and i wish you the best of luck in the future wherever your eve experience takes you.

Having been recruited by Max at just 9 days noob, I've known nothing but Umcon. This was a more difficult decision than you should ever face in a game.
Without the burden of responsibilty I am sure we will find fun once more. Look out.
To all Umcon pilots, it has been my pleasure. Eve goes on, as does IAC, it is the way of things.
Let's get p issed!

What is going to happen with corp assets? I mean you must have some T2 BPOs. If the directors are all burned out and you obviously cant continue on will you:
1. Liquidate your assets and split the isk amoungst the members
2. Directors start new corp and take all assets for themselves, and turn professional carebears?
Just curious. |
