Those of you that use AIM to chat should be familar with the warning system on there. Or anyone who uses ebay should know about the rating system on ebay for each user. We should create something like that for eve.
It would basically be a 2nd security rating, only this one would be based on other players feedback, and not some automated system. It would be associated with the individual account, not a specific character, which avoids the problem of someone stealing, transfering goods to a 2nd character and deleting the first character.
You might actually want to make it into 2 seperate ratings. One for individual players, and one for corps. If someone steals from a corp, then the CEO or security officer can issue a negative mark against that player. The mark should stay there for 3-4 weeks at least, or perhaps even be permanent. The corp that issued the negative mark can remove it. And if the player applies to another corp, that corp should be able to see the list of negative marks from each corp.
Giving individual players the same option might also be useful. There are occasions where people act like *******s, but you cant shoot them for it. well, give them a negative mark. Then at least other players will have an idea of what that person is like. There should be a limit to how many marks one person can give to another. Perhaps even a limit to how many marks in general anyone can issue. That way people will probably avoid giving other people negative marks unless they really did something annoying. Allow them to also enter a line or two describing why the mark was given would also be nice.
The marks from individual players should probably just be associated with the specific character, rather then the account. But the corp marks should be attached the any character for that account.
Basically, it would be a rating system something like the warning system on AIM, or the rating system on ebay. It wouldnt have any real technical impact on the player. It would strictly be a social system letting players make their own judgements.

Hm, could call it their "trade" rating maybe?

So whats to stop me from giving people negitive marks for no good reason?
"I don't like that so-and-so is anti-abortion, so I'll give them negitive points."
"So-and-so wouldn't refund my money when I realised I couldn't use this weapon, even though he listed the skills required before hand. Nevitive points."
"Her name is Skanky Kate. What a stupid name. Negitive points."
There are just too many people playing Eve who would liberally abuse it at every chance for it to be feasable, even if it would be a nice feature in a perfect world.

Shari, look at the 4th paragraph. I said there should be a limit at least to the number of marks you can give to one person, and probably it should be a limit to the number of marks you can give at all. Say you can give one bad mark once a week. That would limit the likelyhood of someone giving bad marks just to be a jerk. Should also probably put something in that if you delete your character, then any marks they gave get deleted as well. That prevents people from making characters just to give out bad ratings.

Right on Merkar! I totally agree with your idea and would like to add a few enhancement ideas of my own to yours. First I think CEO's should file a report with CCP regarding actions of a greifer nature and after say three of the same complaints of the same nature by more than one CEO on more than one account the said account should be suspended until CCP can investigate said account holder. I'm really tired of hearing about these greifer cases time and time again. This needs immediate attention if Eve is to maintain it's future longevity. Greifers go back to playin solitare, atleast you'll only be cheating yourselves.
Take what ya kin... Gives nothin back!!!

Hi,
Corps should deal with their problems.
And jerks should be ignored.

Very good idea about the rating system, but how do you get someones account name. I know I would never let anyone know my account name and it has nothing to do with my character name.
I just don't see how it could be implemented without some sort of control on it.

What about just giving the thief's sec. status a whack? Corp.'s should be able to pod thiefs without getting punished if the thief has a positive sec. status. --------------

CCP's response has always been that someone stealing from the corp is a permitted part of the game, just like being a pirate. So CCP isnt going to ban someone, anymore then they would ban someone being a pirate.
You wouldn't need to get their account name. It would just be something automatic. When the corp applies the bad mark to one character, the bad mark shows up on all the characters for that account.
I also thought about just lowering the sec status, but that would need some sort of balance to it to prevent a corp from just putting black marks on anyone they want just to get a free pass at killing them. At the very least it would need to be black marks from several corps. It would be nice if you could nuke a thief. It just needs to be a system that cant be abused to nuke anyone you like. At least if its just a social system, it gives someone a chance to still try and prove they can be trusted without putting a death sentence on their head.
And if someone really ****es you off, you can always just put a bounty on them and let the bounty hunters dish out justice. The bounty is already sort of a rating system in a way. But i think implementing something a little more refined would be better. Especially something that shows up on the character info, so that its easy to check. Since you can already see their sec status under info, there's no reason you couldn't also see any black marks against them as well IMO.

Heres a better solution. Make a ceo option that transfers from the corp account of > x dollars or x% of the total acct per day must be approved by the CEO, or someone else with the rights to approve. This way,if someone tries to clean the account dry before anyone notices, he wouldn't be able to. Problem solved.

its not just stealing money, its also stealing items. with the new hangar system its a little easier to prevent this from happening. But its still possible for someone to steal and there is no way of catching them.
There is no penalty in game to someone stealing, other then someone putting a bounty on them. and that isnt much of a threat since they can just go and make a new character.
stealing is quite that easy in the real world. So stealing in game shouldn't be quite that easy either. It should be possible to steal, but it should also be possible to catch the theifs.

I'm sorry, but I think this is a poor idea. I understand your intentions, but the result is just another way to grief people. Unlike fighting, though, there is no possible way to fight this, and that's always the worst kind of griefing.

well, i think if you limit a persons ability to put a mark against someone, that will discourage them from just doing it out of spite.
so maybe only letting them do it once a week. and also only allowing them to put one bad mark on a person once.
It would be hard to abuse it that way since a person with just one complaint against them isnt that big a deal. but if you see someone with a dozen or two complaints from different people, then you know something might be wrong.
another way to discourage people from abusing it would be to have it show on your profile how many bad marks you've given over the last 30 days or so.
It works on ebay, so i dont see why it wouldnt work on here.

Back in beta i seem to remember reading somewhere that CEOs would be aware of all characters to any given player in their corp. Can anyone confirm if this was planned at some point and later abandoned?

Make security ratngs based on accounts not characters.
