I'm a researcher by trade, but I've never been able to make a living off it. I make most of my money through agent running, supplemented by mining. I had an idea, and was hoping to get feedback before I invested in it.
If I purchased T1 BPOs off the market, spent time improving them, then offered to sell the improved BPO - not copies, but the original - for an amount of ISK (BPO cost + lab rental fees + markup), would anyone be interested in purchasing them? If so, what sorts of items would be of the greatest interest?

Im sure there would be a market for this especialy With the big influx of players who are wanting to save time and catch up with everyoen else. I would think the larger missiles, drones, ships etc would all sell. Not sure how good the profit margins would be though and it would probably mean a large outlay of isk. Make sure you advertise well.
Perhaps another thing to consider is the Tech II items filtering into the system. To manufacture Tech II you need to use the Tech I version of the item so anyone who gets a Tech II BPO and wants to seriously manufacture is going to want the BPO of the corresponding Tech I item. In this situation you want to get the goods on the market fast while there is still a limited market so you don't want to be messing around locating the BPO and researching it a while so Im sure if a researched version was available it would be snapped up.
Its always a risk but I wish you the best of luck.

While it is a little bit of a risk, its also not a lot of markup for the time involved. If ur buying a cruiser BP for 50mil, even at ME 20 it would be hard to get over 70mil back, which works out as 20mil profit for 40 days research (aproximates)
That also assumes that you can find a buyer. Its a risky business but if you are willing to take the risk then go for it there should always be some corp who decides they need another BPO of something

Theres some things right now that I'd love to have Researched BPO's. You just gotta find out whats popular and start sticking money into it.

I was thinking about the same (especially as there were an increased number of WTB: BPO XY posts on these boards in the last few weeks)
the markup on the research service doesn¦t have to be HUGE - you don¦t put much time into it - and time is money ... the research, once started, works well on it¦s own .
concerning the example with the cruiser BPO:
20 Million markup is¦t bad for 40 days of waiting isn¦t it ? - maybe even 10 Million is ok.. if you earn them with 2 minutes gaming time.
all it takes to get that business started is a solid amount of ISK to invest - and that¦s the point where my problem starts ...

Theres definitely a market, but as with everything in eve, if you want to make megabucks you need lots of isk to invest to get the returns you desire.
Isk breeds isk
On a cruiser BPO (70-80m investment) I would pay 10m over the base price if I really wanted to have such BPO's
On a Batleship BPO I would easily pay 100m over the base price for an ME10 researched print. If like me you are into BP sales then its great to hit the ground running with researched BPC's that can be copied and sold right away. Just 10-20 successful sales would pay for the research that cost extra and could be achieved in 1/4 the time it would have taken to reseaarch the print yourself.
Incidentally, Ill be in the market for some ME10 Caldari cruiser BPO's soon if anyone wants to start researching :) will pay 10m over the base price for each ME10 Caldari cruiser BPO, need all 4.

Getting the first million is the hardest, well it was 10 months ago when all we had were miner 1's and no extra mining skills - you youngsters dont know how lucky you are I tell ya :) |
