I've been on a mining spree with my corp lately, and my miners have complained about occassionally getting only half the amount of ice in a cycle. It's like one of the strip miners forgot to actually mine anything for that cycle. It seems to correct itself if the correct (which you have to guess) strip is deactivated, and will continue until that is done. Really a pain in the butt for Macks, since they're hold is tiny.

That is really damn strange... Did you file a bug report? Can you reproduce it?

It has happened reliably over the last week or two now. Haven't been able to pin down the exact cause, nor have I put in a bug report. Initial theory puts it related to mining foreman link going up and down as the link pilot warps from time to time.

Are you sure that it didn't happen because you don't have enough space in the hold?
As the 2 ice harvester don't start at the same time, if you are using a Mack with cargo expanders (or 1 expander and 1 rig) you get a bit more than 8K m3 of space.
When the second cycle come in (if you haven't jet ejected the ice of the first cycle) the first ice harvester start a new cycle as there are still 2K+ m3 in the hold, but the second stop as the remaining space is some hundred m3.
Then some display bug (or a background with bad contrast) can seem the inactive module as still active.

You know I have sort of noticed this too over the past few days. Granted I am mining ore but on the Hulk I set my strips 15 secs apart each one on a different roid than I move contents to jet can. I religiously scan and calculate times to maximize efficiency and sometimes I notice at the end of the cycles 2 will deliver while the third will not. Roid isn't ready to pop and Hold is never more than 60% full at the end of cycles. I hate losing ore.

Edited by: agrajag119 on 17/04/2008 20:34:43 Weird, perhaps something to do with gang bonus changing? |

I've pinned it down to something with gang bonus i think. The link pilot is also the hauler, and when a cycle happens to finish when he's in the hauler all I get is 2 cubes instead of the four. |

Bingo!! when he docks you lose the bonus, when he undocks it activates and at that point your cycle cycles. Used to happen to me all the time so I just hung out in a POS in space and let someone else do the hauling etc. |

From what I can tell, the "time" bonus is calculated when the cycle starts, and the yield bonus when the cycle ends - having the bonus giver dock/undock midcycle makes no difference. If hes docked at the start, you don't get the time bonus, if hes docked at the end you don't get the yield. If your mining rocks, and your bonus get switched on after you start the cycle, your first cycle can deliver significantly more ore - but I think it takes longer too - so the ore/sec is constant. I noticed this a while ago, tried to find a way to use it to my advantage, couldn't, then just ignored it...

We haven't done much rock mining since we got a bonus-giver so I can't confirm/deny your experiences .. but I'm betting you're right.
For ice though, there seems to be a strange issue with the bonus. Possibly something involving the time / amount bonus, which ends up with the time coming out roughly normal but only getting half yield. A mack should deliver 4 cubes per cycle, but all we get is 2.

Edited by: Octavius Omega on 21/04/2008 01:10:25 According to a bug report I submitted a year ago it is intended, argued with him, and he still said it was intended. I gave up.
This is exactly what happens:
Activate link Ice cycle time: 258.84 Deactivate link Instead of the cycle time going up to 333.98, it stays the same When the Ice miner cycles at 258.84 and is an incomplete cycle.
Since the mack pulls in 2 per laser per full cycle, it mines 1 piece when the laser cycles. Just like a regular mining laser that was deactivated early. Other mining barges will not get any Ice when it cycles.
It is VERY easy to reproduce.

my T2 mining drones with max skills are only scooping 3 units of 16m3 ore instead of 4 before the "can clean up patch" anyone else getting this. 2-3 of my corpies that mine have seen this in the past few days as well. anyone else? Freightering Service |
