Nothing wrong with playing Caldaru m8.
As to setting that ship up I wouldn't have a clue, since I've never played with one, but want one badly.
Don't mind me I'm just making suasages! |

You're apologizing for being Caldari? wtf?
What agent you doing missions for? A empire navy?
If it is there will be alot of combat missions. Caracal is a nice ship, it will just be expensive to run due to missile cost.
If memory serves me correctly, you'll need to put two reactor control units on it to fit two 250 railguns, thats with engineering 5. But I dont remember if I had a mwd on also last time I tried it.
Setup #1:
5 x heavy missile launchers (firing heavy missiles)
Med shield booster em hardner thermal hardner 10mn afterburner (or shield booster amplifier)
overdrive cap power relay or two cap power relays
Setup #2
Get a MOA

For level 2 missions you might just be fine running rails and shield tanking. Not sure the missiles are cost effective although I guess heavies are cheap enough.
You'll be in a moa soon enough ;-)

Edited by: Judgee on 22/04/2004 21:08:11 got no problems with lvl2 mission think they r too easy, 2x 250mm railguns does it killing, sarrah, roland and kruuls without being hit, after a while that just gets boring

You can handle most L3 agent missions in a Caracal with heavies. The problem arises if/when you are assigned a mission to destroy "Inferno" classed Guristas. 75k a target iirc.
These guys are nasty and not only do they launch cruise missiles, but they will close on you deceptively quick. Very hard to fight a pair of these with heavy missiles. Hard still even with cruise missiles of your own.
Generally though you should be able to get away with the following for L3 Agent missions:
High slots: 4x Heavy Launchers with whatever mix of heavy's/cruise types you prefer. 1x Standard Launcher with defenders.
Mid slots: 1x MWD 1x Medium Shield Booster 1x Senser Booster (named if possible for a lock range of 92k or so) 1x Cap recharger
Low slots: Either 2x Power Diags or 1x Power Diag and an Overdrive so you don't have to pulse that thirsty MWD quite so often.

kaylana's config is good for your purposes. I don't really see a need for a MWD against agent mission peeps cuz especially against the 75k dude you just wanna survive, and 1 MWD won't help that.

I used my Caracal for all my Lvl3 Agent missions for quite a while. I also worked for the Navy for a couple months and I had 2 setups on it. And this is with Electronics/Engineering level 5.
Setup #1 - For almost all combat missions Hi Slots 2 250 Rails, Named of course if you have 2 Heavy Launchers with Heavy Missiles, they're cheap and effective 1 Standard Launcher with Defenders
Mid Slots 1 Medium Shield Booster 1 10mn Mwd 2 Cap Rechargers, these 2 slots are realy iffy, put whatever you feel you need in there.
Low Slots 1 Magnetic Field Stabilizer I 1 Tracking Enhancer I
Setup #2 For Guristas Infernos Missions High Slots 4 Heavy Launchers with Cruises, or Torps, or Heavies, whatever you can use 1 Standard Launcher with Defenders
Mid Slots 1 100mn Afterburner 1 Medium Shield Booster 2 Thermal Hardeners
Low Slots 2 Power Diagnostic I's
The second setup does indeed have a 100mn AB, I found that with all launchers you have a ton of spare Powergrid, so i went with the AB instead, to keep my shields and cap. The speed isnt quite as much as a mwd, but its enough to stay away from the Infernos, and the 2 thermal hardeners are key, those damn NPC Moas spam cruise missiles like no other, In one encounter with a pair of them I was hit by 39 Cataclysm cruises, and I dont know how many i managed to shoot down.
It may seem silly to put rails on the Caracal, but its very cost effective, and with the ship bonus to range, you can easily stay out at 40-50km where most npcs cant hit you. I believe i was using Iridium ammo, dont remember now.

I am a little confused by this and was hoping it would come up in this topic sooner or later. I was offered the slaver mission (2 infernos, one transport, and the slaver) the other day. I asked about my chances for success in the missions channel and was told to seek out someone with a battleship for assistance.
So my question is, do two thermal hardeners give 100+% protection, or not?
arithmatic would seem to suggest they do, but being told i cant kill the infernos without a battleship would seem to suggest otherwise.
hopefully this post will answer others dilemas as well.
