Why can't I use a MWD inside a complex?

A complex is more often than not set within an area of space called Deadspace. This natural phenomena renders warp drives useless. You CAN warp out of Deadspace, but you Cant warp to a specific point in it, nor can you use a Micro Warp Drive.
Hope this answers your question. - - - - - - - - - High sec miner. Why could possibly compel me to hurl my Retriever into low sec at you, unless it were loaded with explosives, and would destroy you too. :) |

Thats not really an answer outside of role playing. I think he means were ccp just being jerks when they banned mwd's or did they do it for a reason.

Then why does an MWD work inside a warp disruption bubble?

Edited by: Hlidskjalf on 19/04/2008 08:09:44 Edited by: Hlidskjalf on 19/04/2008 08:08:27 With regards to Deadspace. Yeah, RP is one thing, practicality is another. I can't speak for CCP, nor do I know what they wanted to achieve. Not being able to MWD f.e slows down mission running, time spent moving to next gate, chasing enemies etc. It also slows down anyone trying to rain in on your parade (assuming your not sat at the warp in point), should you be brave enough to do missions/complexes in low/null sec. It's really only big complexes and missions that are affected by the Deadspace=no mwd thing, and even then, a MWD is not a neccesary fit on a PvE ship given that most mission ships use medium slots, and a lot of their PG etc, fitting a strong enough tank. (Edit: Armour tankers will use those slots for cap regain.)
With regards to Warp Disruption Bubbles Again, I don't know the story. What can I come up with? It generates an field that is like and unlike Deadspace. It scrambles any form of long range jump calculations or prevents a large enough stable warp field from being formed, but doesnt stop you using your turbo button, lining up to a fixed point, and surging the engine power. Perhaps its not a case of actually scrambling the warp drive mechanic itself, simply scrambling the computers to the point where you cant allign to a target. Computer wouldnt want to get you a few degrees off and slam you into a planet. Perhaps the bubble is unable to collapse small and highly focused fields, such as those generated by a MWD.[RP explanation]
Thats just my go at explaining it. No point moaning about it, since I don't control CCP. (And even if I did, I certainatly wouldn't boast about it. ) - - - - - - - - - High sec miner. Deadspace is a tactical environment, the way I see it. When static plexs still existed, I managed to get a Gist-MWDing Nanoraven to follow me to a plex entrance (he offered me a 1v1 prior to that, thinking I was stupid)
So he drops out of warp, only to find his MWD dosen't work. A quick death ensues
MWDs in Deadspace would also make it FAR too easy to do already-easy missions. Speed tanking would likely become the norm. |

Long time ago, before everyone and his dog had equipment good enough to gank 40 NPC BS, standard mission tactic was to MWD to semi-sniper range and shoot NPCs from 120 or 140km away, beyond their range.
Anyways, tactical environments FTW, MWD not working in deadspaces is some variety at least. |

I imagine for game balance reasons. If a ship could go 10 km / s in a mission it would allow a lot of speed tanking and speed running of certain missions.
As far as warp disruption bubbles, they are not deadspace. They don't actually disrupt the space they affect but rather act as a false navigation signal. The ship's computers fail to calculate warp trajectories due to the sphere. This is why when you warp and a bubble is dropped after you have warped you'll go right through the bubble and land on target. However if you try to warp to a gate inside a bubble, the bubble will give your navigation computer incorrect information and you'll land at the edge of the bubble. In addition if you try warp out of the bubble your navigation computer just sees a huge mess that represents the outside world so it can't give a successful warp path. That's the RP reason at least. Hope it helps.
