I think that CCP should help in the change of the present method of video creation. Ultimately this change would help in attracting more players to Eve and also create a more involved Eve community.
This requires two stages to be implemented. The first would require a 1 key data storage system to log all the data that comes from within a grid to an external file on a client.
The second stage would require CCP to create an external program that reads this file and then re-creates the grid with all ships and effects that normally occurs within Eve. This would replay at full speed, full screen and also full graphics capability of the client.
The benefits besides quality would be the ability to stop the battle at any point. Zoom in on a specific ship, look at whatever angle the user wishes to view the action from. You could also turn off various effects/objects. This would allow complete control of the action. Also the stored information should be smaller than using the video storage method of present making the sharing or transport of the videos a lot easier.
All that would be displayed would be a graphical readout of a ships damage. No information of modules/setups would be given or damage amounts. This would ensure minimal problems with others getting private information.
This method should also be quite simple. I would think all the data is being streamed to the clients as it occurs anyway, so saving this would create limited additional lag, and should only be on the clients system.
I hope that CCP and the Eve Community gets behind this idea.

I completely agree... also allows for a much better analysis of what happened during the battle, for an after-action like report. Cannot go wrong with this imo... However, i still think that the video should be made into a video using some type of converter from CCP... then people could still see the video if they dont have this video client. Cant go wrong with this imo...

Someone plays Halo 3 and tbh its a great draw card for the game to be able to replay the last round/ fight etc form any angle or perspective you liked. Plus I know its the way the halo 3 servers are setup but the files for the rounds are tiny like less then 1mb for 10-15 minute rounds. Freightering Service |

This idea has been kicked around a lot, but ultimately it's not going to happen unless it's a trivial spin off of something else CCP does for the game.
However I do think this could have utility for CCP as a debugging tool - getting nice, easily sendable records of exactly what an individual client received would let us add some weight to "grid never loaded" or "ship did this" since everyone could have the recording running almost continuously.

Edited by: Jarne on 21/04/2008 14:31:44 Would make macros easier and allow for various automatic situation assessment tools (automatic reporting of incoming hostiles, automatic primary calling anyone?). If it's encrypted it will still be *****ed sooner or later.
Dunno if the log server is already logging all this though... is it?
[Edit] Erm, I didn't write the f-word, I just meant the process of determining the key used for encryption. But the word filter obviously thought I was talking about ***** *****s or something ;). [/Edit] - Success=Achievements/Expectations

You mean like BACON?
Anyway, the log file would be written after the fact so unless you plan on calling Alpha, or being told about the new hostile, 30 - 60 seconds after he's locked and started shooting at you I fail to see how this would be a problem, not to mention that macros work with real time data /delayed data would not make them any easier to write, and tbh Macro's are already extremely easy to write for EVE, you can't really make it any easier.
Edit: before some troll starts asking.. no I do not write Macro's I am however a Software Developer, and with the point and click navigation that EVE uses and the ability to display all relevant information on the screen along with right click menu access to almosta everything, writing an application to read the screen, and click on things would be really easy.

I had a thread up about this since Oct '07 and there are many cool ideas suggested.
The continuation of that thread I started again recently here.
