It was nice for a seasoned eve please to see eve at Comic Con this year in New York. They had a tall display right near the entrance to the convention floor. They seemed to have plenty of the black clad army trying to impress the few peeps that would stop at the booth. Unfortunately, most people were lingering at the displays with women in few ass covering clothes and losts of shwag. Both of which were sadly missing from the booth.
I too, in a perfect world, would like to say that kick ass women and shwag shouldn't be required to get attention at the show, but I saw many peeps head directly past eve to the sega booth, which was smaller, to games that had the same good look as eve. I mean, it is nice to know that aging hipsters can get work manning a booth, but if you are going to attract attention for god sakes do something! Even a fricken poster, not the lame handout.
Don't you want to get some attention and make the exhibition worthwhile to someone who stops in at the booth? I pretended that I was new to eve and the explanation I got from the booth attendant was pretty bad. There was no excitment about the product, no pitch, no nothing. Just, "look how great it looks". I am sorry that isn't enough.
A terrible little card game from a nothing company was making a killing in the back of the room, they were generating excitment.
Better luck next year.

Interesting. I have heard that CCP had good booths in the past.
Also, anyone seen anything about them attending the San Diego comic con? It is one of the biggies, and I know they didn't hit it last year. --------------

I have to agree with Psycho. I was there late on Saturday and although the booth was towering the human element and the take-aways were unimpressive. Psycho makes a good point, as a current player I got nothing out of it.

Yeah I have to admit, I didn't even stop at the booth. I saw the banner hanging for it, and meant to stop by, but others such as the DC booth with a few freebies, informative people and the talent, along with booths like the Warhammer Online, Dark Horse comics and so on caught my interest more. It wasn't because these booths were filled with scantly clad women, or had tons of free stuff to give out (though the DC's pin collection was pretty cool). It was do to the people who showed an interest and had eye catching items to draw my attention in. The EVE booth seemed like an empty lot at a carnival.

ccp might not have had the budget for it.
and really, id rather they scheduled a greater percentage of their budget on server assets and developer overtime than crappy-soon-to-trashed sales collateral.
but thats just me.

From the pictures of their last E3 (GDC?) showing, it looked like a nice understated affair with downtempo lighting and atmosphere. Sounds like comic con was staffed by the ghetto CCP team.
That said eve is a hard sell; how can you get someone excited with the promise of losing ships when it means hours lost? You five five minutes to hold attention; either undersell it as an open ended game with a side of pvp or a game where you can go so broke you effectively can't play the game any more. ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Other MMO companies there were doing it, and doing it big.

I visited, and was disappointed that this towering structure lacked the fabled SpaceBar!
lots of TenTonHemmer folks mobbing the place, and DEvs of all flavors. Tried to press someone wearing the gear of a White Wolf / WoD dev for details, but got nothing!.
Also hit up the Eve presentation this morning, along with the later MMO panel. Gotta say I was slightly disappointed by the Presentation, as it seemed to be a rehash of long-known info about Ambulation along with some "oooh.. shiny" video thats been seen before IIRC. Had hight hopes, as the CCP presentation was billed as..
Quote:
Eve Online and World Of Darkness are stunning experiences and not(typo from c-con schedule) the team behind both will spill all their secrets.
So.. not exactly what I expected, but good to see the black-clad crew showing around. Also, I scammed a copy of Eon10.. yay me!

Edited by: Psycho***** on 21/04/2008 11:21:19 I am glad somebody got something. I tried to get at least a copy of EON and was told they were for press only. The only secrets that were spilt were how poorly they did compared to the energizing of the crowd that other MMO's of lesser financial status were able to accomplish.
Very disappointing. And the more I think about it the more angry I get.
