I just completed 'The Blockade' level 2 mission.
Thanks to all you guys on here, as I have picked up lots of useful advice!
I nearly gave up!, the first time I warped into 50km and was webbed by a Stasis tower, I was limping around at 100m/s and all the ships were on me. So I warped out with 50% of my armour gone. I tried again and warped in at 100km, I got webbed again and I managed to destroy 2 ships, but triggered another wave and again had to warp out with 50% armour gone!!
So I tried another approach, the Stasis tower had to be destroyed first as it was crippling my Thrasher. So I warped in at 10km, I targeted the Stasis Tower, which was 12km away and took it down! . Luckily the other ships were all about 60km away and now I could pick them off one by one. I kept zig zagging away from them, keeping the 5 closest ships targeted. I kept the distance to 14km+ by controlling speed with the afterburner. If any got to less than 10km, I webbed them!
The loot drop and salvage is quite good and I got about 900k in bounties alone!! ..thanks for your advice!

Yup, love that mission. GJ doing it in a Destroyer, I don't think I'd have the patience for that - but, as you've figured out, as long as you take out the stasis tower first it's actually pretty easy to just kite everything and take almost no damage.

Well done - finally someone has taken the advice to stick with smaller ships and learn the ropes.
You'll do well if you can do that mission in a dessie. Don't relax there's plenty of challenges to come, but very well done.

You know any mission you can warp to xxx you just first warp to 0, stop the ship before warp, then pick your warp to spot (100km). You then warp to that spot, bookmark it, warp out, warp to your bookmark at 100km, ad infinitum.
Just for fun I made a 300km bookmark for Krul's mission. No aggro. Around 230km one ship aggroed me and slow-boated to me. Newb. He died. I closed distance and more aggroed so I took them out as they came to me.
You have to mix up approaches in the pve part of this game since it is sorely lacking after the 5th time you do the same mission.

Not quite true - it only works for non-deadspace missions. In the majority of missions you're punted into the mission deadspace by an acceleration gate and have no coice about where you land.
But for the non-deadspace missions this is a very good technique.

That's what he meant by "any you mission you can warp to xxx". |

Ooops - read that wrong at some ridiculous hour of the morning. I read "you can warp to any mission" instead of "any mission you can warp to".
Apologies - the post was absolutley correct.....it was my poor reading.

OO me too. LOL, just wanted to add that others are hearing the advice to stick with the little ships and learn the ropse. Heck it is alot easier on the wallet. Lost a Rifter doing my job this weekend and it was really no sweat off my back even with some T2 modules on it .
As for doing that mission in the destroyer excellent job. I have not tried it, since I do not mission much, but I would try it if I had the opportunity. I have only done the level one blockade back in the day and boy it destroyed a few Rifters and Destroyers. I do not remember a stasis tower being in the level 1's thank the powers that be.
Keep up the good work.

Well done!
Thing is that the experience you got from that, having to actually work out strategies and optimising your gameplay will help you for the rest of you EVE career. So even if you did lose a ship on it and even if it wasn't really worth it cash/LP wise it's a very valuable lesson.
brains over brawl imo.

Thanks.. ..I decided to specialise in frigate/destroyer size ships and train up the skills to get the best out of them, as these skills are also invaluable for the larger ships as well.
I completed the assault frigate training a couple of days ago and bought an Ishkur. But I did not want to risk using it on a level 2 mission at the moment as I can only use Hobgoblin I drones. It seems to lack firepower until you can use Hobgoblin II's and I am concentrating on drone skills and drone interfacing and should be ready to try it out in a couple of weeks!! I also want to have one light armor maintanence drone in the bay and was not sure if it can be used to repair the other drones? or can it only be used to repair the main ship?

Other drones? Yes. Although you shouldn't need it - ideally, in missions you'll draw all the aggro yourself, THEN release your drones - that way they can get about their business unmolested while you soak up all the damage.
On yourself? No - you can only use repair drones on something you have targetted. Now try targetting yourself...

I never thought of creating bookmarks further away from the centre of action, I thought it was only limited to 100km. I like that technique and will try it out when I next get 'damsel in distress'. I never waited around, to take on the Mercenary Fighters as everything aggros at once. But I like the idea of approaching them from 300km

Don't be affraid of running lvl 2 missions in an ishkur, even with T1 scout drones.
If you have drone interfacing at 3/4 and scout drones operation at 3/4, it will be fine.
Also, to get aggro, stick some hmmm... 125mm railguns on the 3 ishkur turret slots. It will do some damage too with some range. The Ishkur is very sturdy when it comes to fighting serpentis, just be careful on angels because the explosive is low as normal, sometimes need several modules for explosive res.
I stayed on a destroyer for a long time too, and blockades in my catalyst where quite chalenging if I wanted to run them quite fast. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !
