I have been flying a Blackbird for small wandering gang PvP lately and there's two things that leap to mind causing difficulties (apart from getting hideously outnumbered!), which are drones and getting jammed myself. I was thinking about using one mid slot for an EECM module to counter the latter problem.
This might be obvious, but do you fit an EECM module to match your ship (I.e. Gravimetric on a BB), or are you trying to match the target ships targetting system? If it's the first it's probably worth sparing a mid slot for assuming they do work effectively.

ECCM boosts your own ships sensor strength, making your more resistant to jamming. So yes, a gravimetric would be correct for a blackbird.

EECM is worthless don't even bother fitting it.

In spite of what people seem to believe, ECCM halves your chance of getting jammed. Of course, there are usually a dozen other modules that a person could fit that would work better overall.
I think I liked Liang's suggestion that ECCM be changed into a sensor booster script function. Then it wouldn't seem like you're fitting against a single possiblity. This means in the 99% of your EVE life things aren't jamming you at least you're getting SOMETHING out of the module. In the 1% of the time that some Caldari ECM boat is jamming you you can swap over to ECCM and at least improve your odds.

Edited by: AKULA UrQuan on 21/04/2008 01:56:11 Keep in mind haveing an active ECCM fitted lowers the effectiveness of scan probes. "Sig radius/Sensor strength" is a fairly imporant part of the probe mechanics. So an ECCM is rather helpfull here, but situational I must admit.
Since I moonlight as a EW pilot (Blackbirds and scorpians) I can confirm that a target mounting ECCM is highly annoying. Forces me to double up on ECM mods directed at the target for the same effect. ECCM is far from useless.
Moveing back to the OP. Don't fool with ECCM on any caldari EW platform. They're already blessed with engough sensor strength. Sensor booster is what you want. With the res script you can "lock-first-jam-first", or use the range script and jam for 120km away. Mastering the art of tatical on grid warps comes in handy in these ships as well but that's another topic.
