I'm not sure how long this has been around, but I ran across this today and I was pretty impressed. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, read the paragraph above the pile of gold. I've got to admit that it's a pretty funny turn around when wow starts making eve pvp look a little meaningless

Still meaningless. Just you can win cash prizes with the meaningless combat...which I suspect will be very hard as you will likely have to compete against those over-dedicated members who seem to play 24/7 ___________________ I'm annoying |

LOL I agree. Do you realize the kind of guys you are going to have to beat to earn that money? _______________________________________________ The ShadowMaster -

I fight in eve and beat the dedicated alliances with billions of isk and toys able to wipe out entire fleets of ship- I get internet spaceship real estate
I fight in wow and beat the mouth breathers in wow that play 18 hours a day, I get cold hard cash. And this time, the ****sockers don't get a gear advantage either, everyone is on the same playingfield

I have played wow for two and a half years (cancelled sub about 2 months ago) and I can assure you that there are some players on WoW that will nerd it out to the point of using shoe boxes as toilets to get that money.
Not to mention it is a game and games are meant to be fun. If your main priority is making cash than your doing the wrong thing.

There are a lot more people that you will have to beat then there are in in EVE. Not saying you can't, just saying the odds are stacked heavily against you.
Just a gentle reminder.
Lets us know if you do and win so we may stand corrected.

i played wow, and always found that playing 24-7 didn't make much difference to how good somebody was, once they'd got beyond a certain playtime.
'Being The Best' would largely come down to knowing how to play your class arse backwards, getting the right gear (not necessarily the highest tier epics), who you get put against, and having the reflexes of a hyperactive cobra on a speed binge.
you're thinking of 'Being Ginger Magician'.

E-sport has been around for a number of years.
I don't see thousands of EVE players moving over to play Counterstrike, just because they have cash prizes at tournaments?
Please mind that this WoW tournament isn't actually played on the normal servers. Special servers have been set up for this purpose, and you can only get in if you have a team and are willing to pay $15 a pop to get access - After that, you still have to beat the rest of the participants.
Unless you've been in a 3v3 team that has had a constant ~2200+ rating on the normal servers, i don't think you can count on being anywhere near the top 100, let alone the top 3.

WoW will never make any other PvP system look meaningless. WoWs PvP is the laughing stock of the MMO genre. Heck, even it's own subscribers freely admit it's a piece of crap.

Edited by: Verital on 22/04/2008 05:27:01 I wouldn't even consider going into that contest with the notion of winning.
1) There will be a LOT of contestants 2) Some of these people have given up everything else in their life, so all they have is WOW. Beating that kind of devotion would be impressive. 3) While removing the gear advantage will level the playing field a bit, some of these guys can beat fully epiced PVPers naked.
Just like in EVE, for example take a player who has been here since beta, and a player that started a month ago and give them equal SP characters. The older character is probably still going to beat the newbie since they will have more experience with ship fitting, pvp, etc etc.
**EDIT** The fact that you are here, and not practicing right now means you are already behind at least 5% of the contestants
